Leggings for running that don't fall down?

Hello - I'm re-starting running after a hiatus of several years. I've been doing other exercise in the meantime so I have plenty of sports kit but the leggings all seem to fall down when I run. Any suggestions for leggings that won't end up exposing my middle aged midriff?

Ronhill. I have leggings from all the other main brands and these are the best ones for running.

Resilience · 17/02/2025 09:19

Are you sure you don't just need a smaller size?

FeelinTwentySixPointTwo · 17/02/2025 09:20

You want ones with a tie drawstring at the waist and, presumably, ones with a pocket too?

My favourites are Ron Hill though, if you want something cheaper, Decathlon Kalenji are the best bargain buy.
Sweaty Betty zero gravity are v good too but I'd only buy in the sale as I'm not spending 90-odd quid on running leggings!

You'll get lots of recommendations for M&S Goodmove etc and while these sort of non-running brands are OK for classes and shorter runs, in my experience they don't stand up to more "thorough" running training in the same way the likes of RonHill do.

Busyrelax · 17/02/2025 09:25

You need a running brand and a tie waist. The tie makes all the difference. Ron Hill, Asics, Brooks are my favourite

EmmaStone · 17/02/2025 09:31

Sweaty Betty (in the sale).

MiddleAgedDread · 17/02/2025 09:46

M&S Good Move

CanOfMangoTango · 17/02/2025 09:49

Agree with PP

You need a dedicated running brand, doesn't have to be expensive, and a tie at the waist.

Can't go wrong with Decathlon imo.

Ron Hill their RED (run every day) range is good. They have drawstring waists and useful pockets.

coldchipsfortea · 17/02/2025 13:39

Thank you so much for the replies - the leggings i have are all tie waists with pockets. The worst offenders are a Nike pair (literally 10 steps in and they were gathered at the ankles) and - very unfortunately- a Ron Hill pair!

Could it be that they are past their best and the elasticity in the leg has gone? I do tend to hang onto things for ages. cheapskate

I like the snag ones! I didn’t expect to but they’re thick, have pockets, and so long as you get the right size (too small rather than too big, they’re stretchy!) don’t fall down

IsItAllRubbish · 17/02/2025 13:40

Happy Stride have worked really well for me, plus wearing an accurate size (I always buy too large!)

Rocketpants50 · 17/02/2025 13:43

Another vote for m&s.

ZenNudist · 17/02/2025 13:44

I've just retired a pair of m&s goodmove I have had since 2017 , definitely pre covid. They have been through a lot of wear. I bought another pair in similar pattern (black and great, neutral but not boring. I have 3other pairs I wear on rotation. They last and last.

They have drawstring so essential tostop it falling down when I run ax I have apple shape.

I am wearing normal gap leggings right now and I miss the phone pocket! They'll pocket with zip is also essential.

Tarkan · 17/02/2025 13:46

I swear by Lucy Locket Loves for my Pilates classes but she actually developed them for runners as she's a runner herself. You want the active ones and not the casual ones though.

PleaseAndThankYou12 · 17/02/2025 13:48

M&S or TALA. Expensive but worth it!

user9876543211 · 17/02/2025 13:49

I swear by Lululemon and I run a lot, throw them in the washer and tumble dryer, and they hold their shape for years.

If you go on the website and go to 'we made too many' you can always pick them up for a reasonable price.

mummabubs · 17/02/2025 14:05

Another vote for Sweaty Betty in the sale! (John Lewis and the SB website are currently selling some at 50% off). I've also grabbed a pair for £20 on Vinted that are in excellent condition.

Londonmummy66 · 17/02/2025 14:17

Sweaty Betty Zero fan here too (but I also safety pin my leggings to my knickers just in case...)

EsmeNoteSpelling · 17/02/2025 14:20

I like Tikiboo - great pockets, excellent tie waist, fab colours

stanleypops66 · 17/02/2025 15:42

Gym shark seamless leggings

Loopytiles · 17/02/2025 15:44

Nike or Ronhill.

dislike sweaty betty

Loopytiles · 17/02/2025 15:45

The sweaty betty look good and compress everything, but are uncomfortable

LoveSandbanks · 17/02/2025 16:15

Tikiboo, flanci, Lucy loves, innov8. They all have drawstring waists and don’t fall down.

SunblockSue · 17/02/2025 20:33

Sweaty Betty power leggings every time. Lululemon are too high waisted so the draw string is in the wrong place for me. M&S and decathlon's material always a bit shiny/cheap feeling.

elliejjtiny · 17/02/2025 20:43

I do a slow plod rather than fun but I wear asda maternity leggings. They come up to my bra strap because I'm not pregnant but they are so comfy and never fall down.
