How much do you think is reasonable for a PT to charge?

I have been asking around and it so far has varied from £40-£70 per session.

I really want to give it a go to build up my confidence before going it alone.

So far my favourite (who I've got the best vibe from) is the £70 one (of course) but it just feels like such a lot of money!

If you can afford it, do it. It's the least wasteful thing I have ever done with my money. It's literally your body and your health. It's worth it.

(Edit just to say £40-70 sounds about right as a price range, you will obviously get variability in skill level/ experience within that and £40 is cheaper end)

I paid £44ps in London for a block of 10 sessions but the PT came to my house so wasn't paying for gym space/access. £40-70 sounds pretty reasonable to me as a range. It's up to you to decide what it's worth to you.

Thanks both, your input is really helpful!

Thank you for the viewpoint, I love that idea that's it's the most valuable thing to do with my money.

I pay £400 for blocks of 10 sessions. I value my PT so much that I prioritise his sessions over paying for a cleaner.

And I save on therapy as he does all that too 😅

(But I’m not anywhere near London!)

I'm not anywhere near London either!

I noticed a sign in our gym earlier in the week and I can't remember the price per session (£42 an hour maybe?) but 10 sessions were £375. That's on top of needing to be a gym member though.

I paid £300 for 10 sessions. My PT drew up a plan for me & we had a session once a month.

She’s moved now but it was very worth it.

I am in Greater London and found the range to be similar but sessions varied from 30-60 minutes. Going rate seemed to be £1/minute when factoring the difference in session length. The trainers I enquired with had equipment in their own homes so it was not quite as extensive as all gym machines but plenty of choice.

I did a block of 20 to learn how to workout properly and ensure my form is as good as can be then moved onto group training which is much more affordable - I go to 5 sessions each week for the same monthly cost. There are approx 8-10 of us to each coach and we work through exercises like a circuit. It is not personalised the same way as a PT is but small enough for them to make adjustments if something doesn't work and to know us and guide when to push

I do agree with the consensus that spending money on body and health is the best investment, I feel so much stronger since training regularly and the mental health benefits just can't be put into words

I pay £30 per session and I know that is cheap, especially given the qualifications and experience of mine. Length tends to be around 45 minutes but my PT draws up the program too (which often includes sessions by myself, too) and that takes time. Plus comes to my house, which also takes their time. I've been working with my PT since before Covid and do 3 sessions per week. They value the regular income so keep the hourly rate down. I am very particular about not messing them around with last minute cancellations and pay as soon as I am invoiced.

Traveller2025 · 23/03/2025 18:16

I’m in zone 4 London and charges tend to range from £40-80 for 45-60 mins.

Sounds about right to me.

Traveller2025 · 23/03/2025 18:19

Sorry just saw you are not near London. I think £70 is quite steep, but if you like them and think you can work well with them then the investment is worth it.

Sunflowers765 · 28/03/2025 18:07

I have a PT at a well known gym and it costs about £48-54 per session depending on how you buy it ( number of sessions purchased/direct debit etc) it is absolutely worth it. I go once a week and then twice more on my own. It keeps me motivated and pushes my weights which I would never do on my own. Great investment!
