Is there any such thing as an all-rounder

In the shoe department.
Tired of burning through all my trainers in less than 6 months. Is there anything suitable for everything? I do a mix of lifting, spinning, running some times on treadmill some times outside. I don't do massively long runs. Usualky 5 km twice a week. I do yoga and things like pump and combat do stbikity and balance is important . I do classes back to back and if I have a day off I do multiple things and don't really want to be taking several different sets of trainers with me so need something that I can just keep on. Does this shoe even exist ?

I have various pairs of Brooks, I have wide feet and they're great. I do similar classes also run 5km around 3 times a week. My favourite is the ghost model.

Whatwouldscullydo · 05/02/2025 22:51

Would brooks also be suitable for lifting/strength training?

Watching with interest. I recently bought some Adidas Amplimove trainers to try to cover the days when I do both classes & weights, but they’re not really ideal for running on the treadmill (I got some Duramos for that). And I also have Adidas Dropset3 / Nike Metcon 9s trainers for my heavy lifting days..it’s super frustrating.

There has to be something suitable out there.. I cant be taking 3 lots of shoes on top of everything else ....I have quite big feet. Wide but not necessarily wide enough to warrant buying wide shoes l, but I won't fit into narrow shoes. I also turn my feet in so they have to be really supportive.

Agree with this. I also use Mizunos and I run much further (think 10-15k 3 or 4 times a week for half marathon training). If they are comfortable enough for that they will also be for the lighter or low impact exercise. Worth the investment. Look on website like Sportpursuit for really good deals

Yes, the ghost model is sturdy and supportive enough for weights, but light enough for running. I have another Brooks model which are too heavy on the feet though so not an all rounder.

I dont have anywhere that sells them near me so will be an online job. How true to size are they ?

I don't know whether it's my feet or not but I find the Adidas Ultraboost a great all rounder. I run, row, do weights/strength, hike, stability etc in them. They're not cheap ($180 here) but older ones are often to be found in the sales . I haven't bought anything else but Ultraboosts for the last 6 years they work so well for me.

FeelinTwentySixPointTwo · 06/02/2025 12:13

Brooks Ghost are good, as a pp said. Go half a size up. Also quite like Adidas Ultraboosts.

I'm a runner principally but also lift heavy vweights and, occasionally, do classes.

Whatwouldscullydo · 06/02/2025 12:36

Is there a particular version? There seems to be ghost 15/16/l etc which one ?

And would they stand up to multiple classes a week? On top of runs and weights ? They look to be pricy which is fine provided I get more than a few weeks of wear out of them or they are no better/more durable than the ones I currently wear at half/1/3rd the price.

Any Ghost are great - I usually buy an older model as they're cheaper. You can get some 15s at the moment for around £70 which is a great offer.

And yes they'll stand up to classes and a bit of running - they're designed for distance running so will definitely withstand cardio sessions.

Whatwouldscullydo · 06/02/2025 13:34

The ones on sale are out of my size 😭 I'm an 8 so I'll need an.8.5 ?

I would say totally true to size (the Brooks Ghosts)

RayKray · 06/02/2025 20:17

There's not going go be anything that does lifting and running as they need contradictory things. No cushioning and cushioning. You could lift in socks or get some cheap vans off vinted. Metcons are good for everything else except the running.

Gymbunny2025 · 06/02/2025 21:50

I'm similar to you. I have spin shoes, running shoes and aerobics/pump shoes. It is annoying having to take extra pairs to gym (and store them at home!!) but I think 3 is minimum for me.

Sanch1 · 06/02/2025 22:08

I don't wear shoes for lifting. That'll save you one pair!

Whatwouldscullydo · 06/02/2025 22:32

My gym requires footwear to be worn at all times so lifting in socks is out. If I need separate shoes I'm gonna need a bigger gym bag 🤣🤣

OP posts:
RayKray · 07/02/2025 06:29

Do you do significant running on the days you do other stuff? Metcons will see you through most stuff, then can you keep your running shoes at home and use them there?

But yes I have a huge bag cos I have squat shoes and deadlift shoes and might need to change mid session. Plus belt, sleeves, wraps... its why people end up with big bags 😂

Gymbunny2025 · 07/02/2025 06:34

My bag is massive too 😂 I often go for a swim afterwards so need all that then a full change of clothes for home. I'm sure I pack less for a mini break!!

🤣 it is a case of " iykyk otherwise u look like your into bandage or about to kidnap someone 😬🙄🤣" isn't it.

Yes I group things together so do the runs on the treadmill after classes and workouts usually. So need the shoes then.

Inov8 a good all rounder

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 15/02/2025 10:59

I just wear my old pair of adidas runfalcon 3s for everything at the gym including treadmill running. They do the job. I don’t do any heavy weight lifting though. More circuits and core training.

I have some adidas Duramo speeds, which are a good for price running shoe, for my longer outdoor runs.

I don’t find shoes make a huge difference to my performance in the gym so I just go for something cheap and comfortable.
