Run 100k in February challenge

So...lying in bed the other night I found myself signing up to run 100k in February for Dementia UK.

The problem is...I'm not a runner (or any other type of exerciser) 😂

I last done a 5k when I done a charity run about 8/9 years ago, and I was significantly thinner, fitter and younger!

I'm now 38, about 3stone overweight and do zero exercise. This is going to be a lb almighty challenge, however I'm feeling determined!

If anyone else is doing anything similar and wants to join me in a wee accountability thread please do!

I just wiped the dust off my treadmill, put an album on LOUD and managed to jog 5.9k - I kept telling myself that anything I go through is nothing compared to to the daily struggle my Dad with Alzheimer's goes through :-(

I'm so, so sorry about your DF Flowers

I've signed up for a challenge in Feb too. Not this one though as sadly Arthritis stops me from running anymore.

If you've managed 5.9 km on your practice run it sounds as though you might find this easier than you think too Wink

So you'd need to cover 3.6km every day if you're not missing days, which is doable. Or some longer runs with rest days.

Jeffing, short run intervals alternating with 30s walk breaks is good for saving energy and reducing impact.

I've done Run Every Day January a few times and the hardest stage was the second week when all the tiredness built up, but before adjusting to it. I did a celebtatory last run going somewhere nice (National Trust) to give it a bit more occasion.

If you've not run for so long please make sure you don't injure yourself by suddenly doing too much at once!

I was thinking of trying to do 6-7k when I run so I can have rest days, and am hoping that be week 3/4 I'll be able to run further. I'm terrified I get an injury - I need to complete this!

This is my fear! I'll do loads of stretching before and after and hope for the best Halo

You could try a couple of shorter runs this week?
