Exercise clothes recommendations?

I'm not sure if this is the right topic, sorry if it isn't!

I'm going to join the gym, I'm currently 11 weeks postpartum (c-section) and have endometriosis, so I need workout gear that is gentle on the abdomen, but also very stretchy (to accommodate endo-bloat).

Any recommendations for tops (preferably not cropped) and bottoms? - for pilates, running, etc.

Also, what trainers brand would you recommend!? I've heard ASICS are really comfortable?

Thanks in advance

ASICS have a clearance website that is super cheap. I like primark tshirt and M&S cotton leggings. It’s not complicated really

I find Brookes running shoes very comfortable but it's all so subjective. Adidas do some nice longer length running tops. I used to love Sweaty Betty and Lulu Lemon but give them a complete swerve now as all super short tops, weird fitting and so overpriced. I've got stuff from SB that goes back 20 years, it used to be do good. Sorry, I've digressed!

A lot of women at our gym wear loose cotton t shirts or men’s fitness t shirts for the larger fit. Women’s is mostly all cropped or tight (or both!)

H and M do some nice reasonably priced gym stuff as does goodmove which is m&s brand

mealdeal20 · 17/01/2025 18:52

Pressed send too soon....

You don't need separate stuff for Pilates and running, just buy running stuff and use that for Pilates too. The running stuff is more breathable technical fabrics compared to the Pilates and yoga stuff that is a bit softer material.

Shoes, it really depends on your feet and the way you run, if you pronate etc, asics are good but not for everyone. Nike Pegasus are a cheapies shoes that many runners have as a daily runner so you could check them out too. Hoka are good if you like a lot of cushion, they've become a fashion thing but are actually good trainers

M&S good move brand is good for leggings, and probably tops, I just rarely buy T-shirts as they all come from races!

LittleRedRidingHoody · 19/01/2025 08:19

ASICS are amazing. I've probably tried most of the trainer brands at this point, but my ASICS are so comfortable I wear them pretty much every day for 'normal' life/travel, as well as running.

I’m a huge fan of New Balance running leggings. They are thick so they don’t accentuate lumps and bumps, they stay up and they last forever.

I bought a pair of these years ago on the back of a mumsnet recommendation I think. When I needed more leggings for more regular exercise, I ordered and returned a load of more expensive branded leggings which were all uncomfortable. Then one day without thinking I referred to these ones as my ‘favourite leggings’ and realised I should buy a bunch more of them, so I did! The high waist is supportive without digging in.

Hank you so much everyone for your replies, I will look at the recommendations! I'm a very indecisive person and get overwhelmed when it comes to shopping, so I'm really grateful for your suggestions :)

H&M have a sale on their exercise gear ending today I think. Some of it's really good and the prices are very reasonable.

dementedpixie · 19/01/2025 21:07

I like matalan for leggings and longline sports tops. I also like asics trainers

CherryogDog · 20/01/2025 09:23

I agree with @Lakel the Amazon leggings are great. I've also got the Iuga fleece lined which are my favourite.
I have a lot of scar tissue around my tummy, and can't wear leggings with a narrow waist band, but these are very soft.
And due to my old lady bladder anything with a drawstring tie waist is out!
I'm short and have a small waist (not small anywhere else unfortunately), I can't wear high waist jeans because they just slide down and make me look like I'm wearing harem pants 😄 but the wide waist panel on the leggings just stays put.
Two pockets, my right hand is not very functional, especially when it's cold, so having a left pocket is a bonus for getting my phone in and out.
When I used to run I wore Brooks, but I'd advise going to a specialist running shop, even if you go online to buy what they recommend.
Tops, just whatever t-shirt that's handy, I don't like the technical sports materials, I get BO within 5 minutes 😅
Anyway, good luck @autumngirlxo
