Is CrossFit the answer?

Does anyone here do CrossFit?

I’ve just had a chat with a local CrossFit place and had the hard sell.
It’s way more expensive than my current gym…£31 a week opposed to £30 a month , but it’s coached and I’m currently making up my own lifting schedule.
I’m sort of sold on it….but I’m also 44, carrying several extra stone, and look fucking awful when exercising - think milk white turning tomato red while sweating like someone walking out of a shower.

will I be making a tit out myself?

Hi! I’m a cross fitter and in your age bracket. I am (or was) slightly overweight. I was probably about 2 stone overweight when I started and about 1/2 stone now.
Hand on heart you won’t make a tit out of yourself. Just turn up, leave your ego behind and trust the process.
My advice would be to commit yourself to at least 2 sessions a week for 3 months. You’ll feel like a new person.
I’ve been going 3/4 times a week for 18 months and never felt better. I don’t care about what I look like anymore as lifting and movement has done wonders to my mental and physical health.
Crossfit is a bit addictive and if I’m honest it doesn’t always feel like you are doing your body a kindness, but just take it easy and build slowly. The coaching at my gym is spot on and it’s a lovely encouraging community.
Go for it!!

It's not my thing at all. But if it feels like it might be your thing absolutely 1000% go for it.

I started powerlifting in my 40s. Do I make a tit of myself parading round in a singlet, covered in talc and chalk, going 'look at me lifting heavy things on a platform' with LOADS of associated red, contorted faces? Probably to some. Do I absolutely love it and think I'm the coolest person alive whenever I do it. Totally 1000%.

It has given me confidence, strength (in every way) and self belief. I'm part of a wonderful community. Totally life changing. And people say the same kind of stuff about CrossFit for sure.

Anything like that can be hard on the body, so good coaching is important. But it sounds like you have that covered. I pay £££ too but I don't begrudge a penny as it's the most wonderful thing. The drive for finding the cheapest gym makes no sense to me.

So if you think this might be the thing for you absolutely give it a go. In my world everyone LOVES supporting newbies, we'd never ever think anyone who stepped on the platform was making a tit of themselves wherever they lifted. We'd be cheering them on every step. I'm excited for you!

I started crossfit 4 months ago, and it's honestly the best thing I've ever done! My body has changed so much, although I wasn't overweight I now have visible muscle which I've never had before, im much stronger and my endurance has improved. The coaches at mine are fab, and it feels more like personal training. Everyone is really nice and supportive, and it feels like a real community. There are also so many different people of all ages, shapes, sizes, and fitness levels that go so you would never stand out, and every exercise can be scaled to your fitness level. I started with going 3 times a week but have upped it to 4 times now. Honestly, I can't recommend it enough.

Omg and I'm a real sweater and red tomato face whenever I exercise for longer than 10 minutes lol. But honestly, no one is looking at you they're just focusing on themselves and getting through the workouts!

CrossFit is definitely the answer! I have been doing it for years and just love it.

It has such a diverse range of movements and obviously every day is different which personally for me is fab because it forces me out of my comfort zone.

It's a really supportive environment, everyone is working on their own lifts and weights and genuinely there is no completion. Everyone really supports each other.

Give it a go, you won't regret it
