Heart rate monitor for running. Is it worth it?

I've asked dh to get me a chest strap heart rate monitor for Christmas. Probably the Garmin Pro dual below.

Do you have one and do you find it more useful than monitoring your heart rate on your watch?

I had a HR strap but couldn't be arsed with the faff of putting it on and bothering to wear it. But DH wears his religiously as he is a bit obsessive about accuracy, and of course chest straps are far more accurate than a watch. So I guess it varies from person to person and depends how much you really care about an accurate heart rate?

Do you already have a Garmin watch? I used to use heart rate for training, but now use pace more. Both via the watch. I couldn't be arsed to put on a heart rate strap. I used to but the wrist based one seems accurate enough for me.

I had one, didn't find it that comfortable to wear. I Just use the one in my watch now, which is fine for me. I guess it depends how serious you are about heart rate training zones? It removes some of the spontaneousness of running for me, but if you're training for a particular race time it would help.

I wear mine most of the time as very occasionally my watch will get cadence lock and that annoys me.

I always wear it for intervals because wrist sensors don't pick up rapid changes in HR particularly well and for races just because.

Thanks for replies.

I hadn't thought I needed one before because as some of you say, the watch should be enough, but I have noticed recently especially after speed interval sessions during the cool down, or when it has been especially cold, that my heart rate wasn't what I expected and didn't match what I felt.
