Can you run with a normal buggy?

Hi, I would like to get back into running but I have a two year old going on three and it is proving difficult to get out for a run without her! I have been looking at buggies designed for running but I don't have the money for them at the moment unfortunately. Is it possible to run with a normal buggy and does anyone have any experience with it? I have a bugaboo and it's good so hopefully it'll work.
Thanks Smile

it really depends what sort of wheels it's got. If you've got 4 wheels and the front ones swivel then you'll find it very difficult to run with as they tend to just wobble rather than roll when you go faster. If it has solid rather than inflatable tyres it would also be a bumpy ride for baby! Which bugaboo is it?

Thank you @MiddleAgedDread

Not really because if you go over a bump your wheels will get stuck and you'll all crash

Get a 3 wheeler second hand

Pyroleus · 14/10/2024 09:05

No, you need a big front wheel (singular) to tackle bumps. And suspension for the baby's sake!
Get a second hand 3 wheeler with suspension and pneumatic tyres.

Have a look for a second hand Nipper 360 or similar. You can usually pick them up cheaply , I think I got one for £20. At nearly 3 you don’t need it to be in perfect condition. But you need need a 3 wheeler that you can lock the front wheel. My newly 7 year old still asks to come in the running buggy with me 🙈

If you're a slower runner and sticking purely to flat, smooth, pavements then maybe you could get away with it.
But in your shoes I would try and pick up a second hand running buggy as it'll broaden the routes you can do; help with getting over kerbs/potholes/ anything off-road; and also help steer more easily.

If you're on Facebook, there are usually people selling secondhand buggies on the various running with a buggy groups

MouseofCommons · 14/10/2024 09:53

You need a second hand 3 wheeler. Even a standard one will let you get a bit of a jog on.

If you have a community furniture project they might have a cheap one. In fact, ours does have running buggies every so often.

I haven't seen one that looks safe enough to try it

MumChp · 14/10/2024 09:55

No.
But often you can buy cheap 2nd hand.

Hotaircacoon · 14/10/2024 09:58

I recently got a new running buggy for £150! I’m sure a secondhand one would be very cheap. Annoyingly my running buggy is actually easier to maneuver and collapse/open there our new bugaboo. My husband and I are a bit peeved we spent so much.

Sneakybusiness · 14/10/2024 09:58

It depends! When I first started running again I moved so slowly that I was probably moving at the pace of a fast walk, if I did this ok a very flat surface (like newly laid tarmac) then a normal buggy was fine. As soon as I wanted to go a little faster or on more bumpy surfaces, I needed a running buggy. I also got mine cheap second hand.

MiddleAgedDread · 14/10/2024 09:59

Definitely not with the wheels on that pram!!
you really need 3 wheels, inflatable and the front wheel to be fixed or fixable.

ManhattanPopcorn · 14/10/2024 10:01

The suspension isn't built for going over bumps at speed. It would be an unpleasantly rough ride for your baby.
