What is safe and not safe?

Wondered if anyone had any advice as feel like google isn't giving me a clear answer. I'm only 4 weeks pregnant, and so its very very early, but I regularly attend pilates. I am just worried that this is not safe in early pregnancy?

Does anyone have any thoughts? I am not quite ready to tell my instructor with it being so early but worried as my class last night had a lot of ab work and im terrified I do something to damage the baby.

I did pilates in pregnancy. There will come a point when bump is in the way and your ligaments are looser so greater risk of injury but there ia not risk to the baby.

@Chillisintheair Oh brilliant! Did you go to a specific pre natal pilates? I love it and want to stay as fit and active as I can for as long as i can but I was terrified leaving yesterday knowing I had just done what seemed a lot of ab work!

I go to spin class a lot so hoping to maintain that as long as I can

Rule of thumb is that it's OK to keep doing what you're already doing (assuming you're feeling all right) until about 12 weeks when the baby starts to grow beyond the protective bowl of the pelvis and when pregnancy hormones begin to soften your ligaments. You really should tell your instructor though, so that they can recommend adaptations (not necessarily now this instant, but soon)

Don't take up new activity, unless it's specific for pregnancy (eg antenatal exercise classes) or widely accepted as safe (like steady swimming)

Until about 13 weeks along, your womb is tiny & deep surrounded by other internal organs. Any physical activity that you don't think of as high risk to internal organs is safe enough while early pregnant.

The rule of thumb that if you're used to it it's probably fine is also true.

It upsets me when women blame themselves when a pregnancy didn't progress. They shouldn't blame themselves Because Nearly always when pregnancies don't succeed it's because of factors nobody could control.

Good things to talk thru with your midwife.

At 4 weeks honestly no, ab work will have no effect. I was still lifting weights 2 weeks before I had the baby, all good

It's fine to keep on doing what you're already doing - but listen to your body and if something doesn't feel good, stop.

I was running to around 20 weeks with my first and then to 38 weeks with my second (albeit very, very, slowly by the end!) I also did weights and yoga throughout but had to adjust movements slightly to accommodate the bump.
