Anyone done/doing a 'Race the Sun' challenge event?

I'm really tempted. I walk a fair bit already and used to be a keen cyclist & would like something to lure me back in the saddle and apparently you don't need canoeing experience.

Just wondering how fit would you need to be to do a 25/30 miles hilly ride, 10/11 mile hike then a 2 mile paddle? I'm not very fit but looking for a challenge to do with my best mate as we post hit 50 and really enjoyed sprint triathlons in the fairly distant past but was a rubbish swimmer and prefer to walk over running nowadays. If you've done one, would you recommend it? And if you're doing one, what the training looking like?

Can you provide a link to what you mean? The one I do is a 205 mile bike ride from the Isle of Sheppy to Weston-Super-Mare. It's a long day in the saddle (although mercifully flat) and not for beginners. What you are describing sounds very different and much more accessible to averagely fit people.

It's a charity event with various events dotted around the country & I'm looking at one of the Lake District one or the off road one . No definitely not as challenging as your mega ride - most I've ridden in a day was a hilly 120miles & that nearly killed me (plus made me realise I'm not actually a fan of massive long rides!). I'm now wondering if it's actually going to be much of a challenge for someone of moderate fitness who could probably hike that now with a bit of effort, ditto the cycle.

Looking at those I would think 'nice day out with friends' rather than 'this is going to be really challenging type 2 fun.' If you've done triathlons and ridden over a century before (even if it was grim) this is going to be only very mildly challenging, even if you are currently a bit de-trained. Even taking it easy it's a couple hours on the bike, 3 hours hiking, and an hour paddling.

That looks amazing. That would challenge me at my current level of fitness, but would definitely love to do something like that.

I guess it depends what you class as "moderate fitness". I can run marathons but that sort of bike ride would challenge me as I hardly ever cycle. The hike would be easy for me and I'd be ok at the paddling because I've done a lot of canoeing and kayaking in the past, but 2 miles is quite a long way if you're not used to handling a boat and can't confidently keep going in a straight line! If you train for it then it's definitely manageable without being ridiculous.

@LaerealSilverhand a couple of years ago I would also have said no more than a nice day out with friends but moderate fitness was generous - I walk lots but that's about it and last time I cycled the 4 miles into town my legs were killing me the next day 😯.

It really does appeal although I hate doing fundraiser events that are purely for my own benefit & team target of £1950 is pretty stiff. Will have a think and keep looking for something and see what my mates say.
Thanks
