Les Mills or something else?

I run 2-3 times a week but I’m peri-menopausal so also want to improve flexibility and lift weights. I’m also fat do need to lose weight. I’ve watched Adrienne (I like her) and looked at Caroline girvan whose exercises seem too hard. Would les mills fit the bill? Have hand weights, a step, rowing machine and watt bike (it scares me) if needed. I think I need a plan or I’ll just do bugger all… work full time in busy tile so time is limited but I want consistency.

ive alternated between peloton app and les mills over the years, I prefer peloton a bit more, feel the search options are easier to navigate and find the type of exercise you’re in the mood for

@Preo do I need a peloton bike?

Mossa Move is an alternative to Les Mills. I have both, but am qualified to teach some Mossa so use that more. They are very similar but the Mossa combat format (Group Fight) is way better than Bodycombat IMHO. Also Mossa is a bit cheaper.

@Preo do I need a peloton bike?

No I just have a cheap spin bike I bought off Amazon, the app is standalone

JudyP · 29/08/2024 17:28

Another that uses a no peloton bike with the app ( it's cheaper!) and I do more strength workouts through peloton than spin rides - love the strength options - am currently doing a 5 day split with Rebecca. Kennedy and enjoying lifting heavier!

Joe Wicks and his Body Coach plan. You can start at beginner's level and he gently pushes you along. There's a food plan for fat loss too and it's pretty cheap (about £80 per year I think but he often has an offer on).

Have a look at Caroline Girvan Iron Series and Beastmode. They're nothing like her other series, they are just pure lifting/weights. Slow and controlled.
They are the free ones on YouTube but she now has a paid app, where I believe she has an Iron Series 2 that's supposed to be great. And other programs that are more like the programs I've suggested

Peloton guide is brilliant for getting you into strength training. It's £95 now and I think around £20 a month. They track your classes and count reps during a class and there are loads of programmes on there to work through from beginners to intermediate. You just need it plugged into a tv and away you go. The app also has yoga, running, rowing and cycling classes.

I bought a Les Mills subscription in lockdown on a reduced price. We used it a lot in lockdown (of course!) but I've sort of fallen off it in the past couple of years - but I don't want to cancel it because it renews on the cheap price 😄

I do enjoy it though when I pick it up - there's a LOT of content, which can appear off putting at first but it's all very good. The thing is with Les Mills though is that it is based on group exercise so doing it alone in your bedroom is good, but doing it at a gym with others is better - I certainly put more effort in at the gym!

Caroline Girvan as recommended is also excellent. You don't have to jump in with heavy weights, start light, you'll still feel the burn. She gives great directions and I find her videos really calming.

Hi @Thelondonone

Thought I'd come back and comment again as I've just discovered another YouRube trainer who looks very good - search Lift With Cee. A couple of women at my gym were doing her 30 minute session and we got talking, so I looked her up last night and her stuff is really good. I'm going to give her a go.

Agree with pps about Caroline G. Her exercises in general tend to be pretty straightforward and easy to follow. She lifts heavy weights but you don’t have to - no one can see you!
