Please help me buy trainers.

I've been running for four years and have always bought ASICS. Every single pair, even ones just worn for walking around the shops, has ended up with a hole near where my big toe would be if they were too long of nail. The trainers are definitely the right size, pronation etc.

I want a new brand as I'm sick of it. Can anyone recommend please?

I run a few times a week and it's on the road.

I do this in all my running trainers. But I went to a shop for my last pair and was sold some things that stick inside the trainer to protect the mesh. So far so good. I’ll see if I can find them.

Different shaped feet as mine always wear at the back - I must have bony heels. I found ASICS gel nimbus wore quite quickly compared to mizuno wave rider - so I just wear those now and replace every now and then

Ah, so it's not just me and not something I'm doing wrong. I have four more pairs that haven't holed yet, two not yet worn, so I can save those. Thank you.

They're the wrong shape for your foot.
They may be excellent trainers, they may technically be the right size (but you know you should size up for running?), but they are the wrong shape. Go and try a few pairs on - try and go to an independent running shop (if you can get to Sheffield, I recommend Accelerate).

I have very straight feet. New Balance, Brooks and Mizuno work well for me. DH has curved, "banana" shaped feet, ASICS, Altra and Salamon work well for him.

I have sized up.

If your toes are touching the top enough to rub a hole before the sole goes they're either too small or the wrong shape or both. You need to try more pairs possibly at a more specialist shop

Yet my toe never feels like it is rubbing in the trainer and even if I'm not noticing as I'm running, which I think I would, it has happened with ones I use for walking around in too.

Maybe try Hoka or On Running. But size up and try them on in a shop.

This is just a guess, so I might be completely wrong, but at you lacing them tightly enough? If you're convinced they have enough space that they're not pressing your toes, then it must be that your feet are flapping around inside or are slamming forward with each step. Maybe you need either lower shoes to stop the flap or to do the double loop trick at the top to hold your foot at the back of the shoe of its sliding forward.

I will try lacing them tighter as it's possible they are looser than necessary . Thank you.

I had the same issue with Asics but my New Balance and Under Armour running trainers haven't done the same over similar mileage/conditions.

I'd agree it's a shape thing because my nephew can wear out New Balance very fast but his Asics have lasted for the expected amount of distance.
