Fixing a neck/ back hump

I've started developing a hump at 40. I've always had upper back/ neck issues, but breastfeeding and office work seems to have made them worse. Is it too late to fix this?

I don't think so.

So I had a bad one from desk sitting.

Then last year, I went to the gym and started doing squats. Specifically back squats using a Smith machine.

My god! My neck hump totally smoothed out and my neck was strong as ROCK.

The neck is basically a huge muscle (as it holds the head up!). The squats were (I only half joke) like a natural neck lift - any wrinkly skin went too. It did take 5 months of lifting heavy- I was up to 60kg squats. Neck hump went pretty early on after about 30kg though. I built muscle on the neck, not in a bulky way but did notice collars were a little tighter on dresses lol.

Mine was so bad a chiropractor once asked if I'd had an accident. I was actually dropped on my head and I'd had a car crash but don't think it was that. It was only minor whiplash.

Thanks. Pre-kids I used to enjoy lifting and strength training. But littles and COVID closures has put me out of practice. Time to try and get some time in.

Appreciate the detailed response!

Yes agree with PP, gym/squats/weights get rid of mine. I did also see an osteopath about a different neck issue and my neck hump seemed to smooth out

You could do a 14 day trial of the Fluidform app. There is a specific programme called Postural Arms which may help this.

Also if you google desk bound mobility sessions you can probably find a few free ones, both for the hips etc and the upper body.
