Running mums??

After advice from fellow mums who are regular runners! I’ve recently got my running bug back and enjoying getting out when possible. Im averaging 3 runs per week around 15 miles in total.

I would really like to sign up for a local half marathon at the end of September, I love how I feel after a race and I thought the extra distance would give me something to focus on.

My only issue is that I’m due back to work at the start of September and I’m worried I won’t have as much time to train, or feel up to it due to feeling tired from work etc.

I’ve also not ran further than 7 miles in 5 years so I really need to buckle down on the distance!!

Do we think it’s possible? My partner is very supportive but he’s also training for the half marathon as well so we will be passing ships when I’m back at work.

Any tips? Advice? I’ve managed runs when I’ve had bad nights with my little boy (he’s nearly 1). So I guess it’s a mental battle!!

You should be just about in time to pick up a beginner's plan with an aim to complete.

I started C25k when I had a baby. Went back to work, found myself signed up to a HM while on a high from my first event and ran it in 2h 30.

If you can fit in up to roughly 2h of running for your long run at its longest, and a couple of shorter runs in a week, you'll be fine.

Realistically your longest runs will be early-mid Sept having built up through August.

If you break it down to the ability to fit the long run in and how many there are above your usual load, it feels much more managable. E.g. when I did a marathon, it was only the 14, 16, 18 and 20mi runs that were above and beyond my usual HM training range, and just doing 4 extra runs felt much more attainable than "training for a marathon".
