Just interested in the range of responses.

I've had to change what I do after having herniated discs. I don't feel like doing 'enough' in some ways and my body is definitely getting softer!

I swim, walk and pilates. I took early retirement, and added the twice weekly swim in, in March. It's made a huge difference - I'm more toned, feel great all day afterwards, and feel fitter on my walks. I now only do activities that I really enjoy, and which have minimal risk of injury - so no high impact for instance. I also vary what I do from day to day, as repitition bores me and things become a chore. I will never give pilates up, as long as I am able - it is so good for my dodgy back and hips. Good luck in finding the things you can safely enjoy Curlewwoohoo

I walk for at least 45 minutes every day and I do reformer pilates once a week, (hoping to make this twice a week but it is very expensive), but it has really made a difference to my strength and posture and it has helped to tone me up.

Walk an hour to/from work twice a week

Two 30 minute weight lifting classes each week

An hour of boxing pad work each week

An hour of sparring each week

Swimming for about an hour once a week

If I'm feeling cooped up or frustrated (once a fortnight maybe), I stick on a 90s pop album and just dance in my kitchen until the sweat is pouring from me

bluecomputerscreen · 02/07/2024 10:39

walk or cycle every day.
even if just for 10 min to the shop and back.
running a couple of times a week.
strength training (pilates) at least once a week.
from oct-mai I do a team sport indoors

Thegreatgiginthesky · 02/07/2024 17:59

I do Caroline Girvan weights 4 or 5 days a week and make sure I get at least 8k steps a day. I also do some short you tube abs and core workouts maybe a couple of times a week.

Yoga, weights and I’m just about to go for a brisk walk because I’ve just eaten my weight in minstrels!

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 02/07/2024 18:07

An hour of weights & cardio 3 mornings a week & one weekly yoga class.

Curlewwoohoo · 02/07/2024 18:39

Oh thanks guys, I'd given this thread up as doomed to unanswered!

Are you able to swim OP? Great low impact full body exercise.

Q124 · 02/07/2024 18:41

Powerlift 3 times a week, run twice a week and walk the dog daily.

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 02/07/2024 18:42

Can you book a session with a personal trainer & get some advice?

Bosabosa · 02/07/2024 18:43

Caroline Girvan on YouTube , I can't believe the difference it such a short space of time (April). I found out about her on MN, thank you MN!!

Abundantwildstrawberries · 02/07/2024 18:44

Gym 3 days a week. I always plan to do 4

i follow plans by Hayley Happens Fitness which are for women over 40, and are strength training plus HiiT and SiiT

If I hill walk or swim now I mentally
file that under mental health.

LaPalmaLlama · 02/07/2024 18:47

I run most days although how much varies depending on what I have coming up in terms of races and also just the weather and how I’m feeling. At the moment I’m doing RED for July to keep me ticking over during the holidays. Will probably do that in August too, then build up in a more structured way in autumn.

SwordToFlamethrower · 02/07/2024 18:48

I try to limit my UPFs so I use full fat again after decades of low fat stuff.

I do yoga, weight lifting and body combat.

I also take mushroom tinctures

ViciousCurrentBun · 02/07/2024 18:48

I walk an hour a day and do tai chi once a week and a dancing class every other week. I was doing one every week but bit difficult with timings currently. I have just started using small hand weights at home. I’m in my later fifties.

izzygirlis4 · 02/07/2024 18:51

Gym twice a week
Swim once a week.
Currently biking once or twice a week
Normally fit runs in as well but injured.
Sometimes some Pilates
Walk everyday.

Meadowfinch · 02/07/2024 19:17

Run two 5ks a week, an hour's karate on a Sunday night that maintains flexibility, and I speed walk from Waterloo to Fleet St and back once a week.

It's enough for me and fits fairly easily into my week. 😊

henlake7 · 02/07/2024 19:22

Walking, maybe 2-3 hrs a day. Run three times a week, weight training, pilates, also use a mini stepper, exercise bike and rebounder a few times a week each.
Mostly its little and often though as my hips hurt if I sit for too long, so 20-30 min sessions here and there throughout the days.
Also no alcohol/smoking and a healthy wholefood plant diet....and try and manage my sleep and stress levels too!

Menora · 03/07/2024 07:31

I had a herniated disc that had a steroid injection and it did eventually heal but I was too scared to exercise for a long time. I started out just swimming and walking. Now I do Pilates and weights (I prefer these to anything else apart from walking)

My fitness app tells me I average 45-60 mins of exercise a day which is good for me as I work long hours.
