New Running Shoes advice

I started running a couple of years ago, running 5K a week at first now 10K a couple of times a week. Half marathon next year. Time has come to replace my very worn Decathlon running shoes which were so comfey. I went back to decathlon hoping to get the same pair again to be told they have been discontinued. The chap recommned another shoe which would be almost idential.

Purchased on his advise and the fact they felt OK in store, just wearing them aroind the house to start to break them in, and there is a heel arch about half way down om the inner side. this feels hard and uncomfortable. Will this improve, maybe my old pair were like that at first or do I need to think again and get a different pair?

I have tried shoes with a more pronounced bump and I don;t get on withit. I need a fairly flat sole. Which these appeard to be but I can feel them!

Go to runners need or basically any other running shop, and they'll check your gate and suggest shoes that suit you! It's definitely not a one size fits all and it'll make a big difference to your running!

Totally agree - go to runnersneed where you can try running on a treadmill in various shoes. I had a fancy for Hoka but when I tried them I hated the very pronounced arch support. Ended up with Asics Gel Kayano which are much more conventional and stable and didn’t have the big internal bump. Might suit you too, but do go try.

which shoes did you buy and what did you have before? It sounds like you've bought a support / stability shoe and you only need a neutral one but you really need to go to a specialist running shop to try lots on.
