Weight Gain Question

Hello

I have 2 questions if someone can help me understand my questions.

A little background information: I'm 30 yr old male. I had a car accident that resulted in me having to take a special medication that causes weight gain. I was 120lbs my whole life throughout my 20's until this happened, once I took the medication I started gaining weight.. I now weigh about 140lbs, and I can notice looking in the mirror that I gained 20lbs, before I was bone stock skinny, which I liked (before I begin gaining muscle which I am focusing on now).

QUESTION ONE(1): Can I starve carbohydrates and just workout vigorously to loose those extra 20lbs to get back where I was? Or do I HAVE to still eat the recommended carb intake/protein intake while working out? My goal is to just burn those 20lbs (which is in my stomach area I think - which I've read is the last place fat burns), can I burn that 20lbs by starving with carbs?

QUESTION TWO(2): There are 3 body types. I was the skinniest body type (of course), I'm the ectomorph my whole life, but now my weight is fluctuating on and off (likely water weight). But still I gained 20lbs and that's not water.

So my second question is, did this medication change my body type? From ectomorph to the endomorph? Since the endomorph "gains weight easily", it appears I can gain weight more easily now. I guess I lost my perfect body weight ability, which was key to my growing up because I use to eat anything and never gain weight, I would stay 120lbs, it would never flux with water weight either...

Some more background info, I never exercised besides cardio (sports) my whole life, but I am getting into a workout routine now, and I want to focus on loosing those 20lbs first, so if I don't need any protein right now, let me know!

120 pounds is a very low weight for a male, 140 pounds is!

Op I suggest you speak to your gp and ask for a referral to a nutritionist.

lol well it's because visually the extra 20 does make a difference, and I know 120lbs for a man is small, however, I am a very small person (I haven't workout my whole life), so I prefer to stay super small UNTIL I workout and gain muscle mass not fat.

I can look into a nutritionist. Thanks!

Are you very short?

I'm 5' 6".

Just my concern is I was 120lbs my whole 20's. I'm just curious if I can just not worry about my carb or protein and just turn the fat all into muscle?

120lb is a BMI of 19.2 which is very low for a man in his 30s.

You need a healthy balance of fat and muscle for good health.
Fat will not turn into muscle.
It is very unlikely that you have a concerning level of fat to lose. To gain muscle, you need to be well nourished across all food groups.

I'd be seeking professional advice as this sounds dangerously close to disordered eating and a distorted perception of body image.

Nonono you're getting confused, I was 120lbs my whole 20's, I could do nothing, eat everything, and still not gain weight, and then suddenly a medication I had to use temporarily put me at 140lbs. Meaning right now had it not been for that accident, I would be at 120lbs this exact second.

It's not a distorted perception, I just liked being a little more "cut", for a skinny person I kinda like that. So now I'm planning to workout, because I kinda feel like I'm forced to now... my body type was a gift for me, I can eat as much as I wanted and now I can't, I have to be careful.

Does this make sense?
