Blood blister on toe from half marathon

Ridiculous, felt it rubbing in mile 1. Yet again my feet always cause problems, and I can't buy another pair of shoes! I was wearing Ininji toe socks as well. I would love to increase my distance to marathon but not sure my feet could take it. Just a vent really, I am an experienced long distance runner but it seems my feet have changed shape over the years. I've been through so many shoes, I get a size up and usually wide fitting. I heel lock lace them too.

Sympathies. I ran an 80k last month without a single blister, then ran a half last weekend in the same shoes and collected a large blood blister on my instep. Taped my toes so those were ok apart from the little one I didn’t tape. It’s infuriating and I spend a fortune on socks, plasters and moleskin!

@Snowjive2 that sounds painful! What shoes do you rate for long distance? Was it a trail 80k?

I don't even know what moleskin would be used for?! Hope it heals up quickly. I also managed to get rubbing sores on my back from my backpack as I was only wearing a vest underneath.

Have you tried lubing up your feet OP? Even a bit of vaseline should help. I've had lanolin nipple cream recommended to me for preventing foot issues - there is some reasoning to it but I can't recall what it was, sorry!

My feet swell terribly when I run any distance over 10km or so, I've found compression socks help massively, I trained for my first ultra (55km) wearing flight socks and a thin normal running socks over the top without a single blister (went up half a size in my shoe too)

Stumpedasatree · 28/05/2024 14:58

Thank you @AgenceGrateau I shall look into compression socks. And Vaseline is a good shout too!

Might be worth getting a gait analysis done. Could be you're wearing the wrong type of trainers. I also use tape on the places I used to get blisters and have found that helps loads!

@Stumpedasatree Yes, it was a trail 80k (but my half last weekend was also trail and much gentler terrain, so just don’t understand the blister). I have ASICS Gel Trabuco Max 3 shoes, after finding Hoka Speedgoats too “clumpy” as I have huge feet. The ASICS are generally fine, they have a high stack (I need the cushioning) but not a very wide sole at the front.
condolences on your vest blister. There’s always something out to get us!

@Stumpedasatree Updating in case it might work for you too: I did a trail half at the weekend (pretty challenging terrain, wet feet for a lot of it) and wore the same shoes as last time without getting any new blisters. I taped each toe using kinesiology tape, then put a blister plaster on each instep and put several large bits of tape over those so my insteps were protected. No blisters!
