Running

So I started running today! Literally just doing my own thing so did 10x1mins runs (at slow pace) and 1 min break.

I know I could do C25K but the app annoys me talking every minute! can anyone recommend another one that's not annoying?!

Or can I just do my own thing and build it up?

And the reason I came one was to ask, do I run every day or every second day? Don't want to wear myself out and give up like previous attempts!

If you do C25K it’s 3 runs a week, which I think is plenty when you’re starting. You can use a free interval timer app and gradually increase your running each week, similar premise to C25K. Or you can just give it a go and see how you get on! Main thing is to take it steady, keep your pace slow and increase distance gradually.

Have a look for other apps.

I use an app on my Fitbit that has no sound at all, just a vibration between each interval. It means I can listen to music of my choice through my headphones without interruptions.

This is what I'm looking for! What's the app called?

The most important thing is time spent running, not the distance you run. I started off with 30 mins a day. Initially I walked a lot. Once I could run 20 mins non stop I increased the time I spent running by a minute a week. Now I can run for a couple of hours without stopping if I want to. If you can motivate yourself I highly advise this method over an app.

Firstly, well done on your first run.

The above poster is spot on in terms of just focusing on time spent running rather then distance at this stage. If you have not done so already invest in a pair of proper running shoes that have been fitted to your gait.

It's just C25K Trainer in the Fitbit app store. I have a Versa 3 but it's compatible with some other models.

Try the Nike Run Club app which is free. It has over 300 guided run plans, and you can listen to your music at the same time. It can also build you a training plan if you want it too. There are guided runs from 10 minutes to ultra marathon, hills, intervals, short, long... I love it.

Also depending on your aims / age / health it is worth researching 'jeffing' which is a great method for covering distance without putting tremendous strain on your body. I have done up to ultra using this method at the grand age of 50.

Mostly running should be enjoyable, time to reset, time to catch up with a friend if you run with someone, time for yourself, time to think, time outside. It has saved my sanity for years now :-)

There's an app called GymBoss that you can set the C25K interval times on and then it will just beep at the end of each set.
