I'm fairly new to running. I'm more of a plodder and not doing anything serious yet. I do parkrun when I'm not working and have entered a 10k race later on in the year. I try and go out and do 5k a couple of times a week.

Is there such a things as runners sunglasses? Glasses that don't steam up or slip down? If such a thing exists I'd like an inexpensive pair that do what they're supposed to do.

Secondly, I only have one pair of leggings with a pocket big enough for my phone. Getting my keys in there as well is a bit tight and the weight of my phone keeps making my leggings fall down. So I'm after a belt that is good fitting, washable and can fit today's modern phones (I have an iPhone 11) plus a set of keys.

Welcome to running!

I have a belt but it’s awkward to get the fit right. I think you’ll do better finding better trousers and not taking all your keys with you - I only take a car OR house key. Look at Lucy locket loves for fab running trousers with pockets.

sure you can get sporty sunglasses. Decathlon is a great place to start for general running paraphernalia.

Kyloe sunglasses and a SPIbelt

GuppytheCat · 20/05/2024 13:44

FlipBelt works well for me. I sized up a bit to get one that sat on my hips rather than waist.

The free train vest is very good, doesn’t flap about. Plus has various pockets for keys/phone and you can flip down the phone case to use the touch screen on your phone without having to stop and it out of your belt.

Sweaty Betty have leggings with a phone pocket on the leg and a small zippered pocket at the back. Buy in the sales. I like them as they last forever and don't slip down!

Or (before SB started doing the phone pockets), I had a flip belt knock off from Amazon that fits everything in.

Not sure about the sunglasses, maybe Decathlon?

Goodr glasses are fantastic, do not move (I can ride my horse in them), don’t move even if you move them on top of your head for a shaded bit, and really reasonably priced

LemonySnickets · 20/05/2024 16:44

For running sunglasses I just bought Higher State ones from Sportshoes.com. They are only £10 full price (I had them on offer plus student discount). Well worth the money.

I'd previously paid £25 for a Goodr pair and they were crap. I'd get very sweaty around the nose.

Thanks for all the suggestions, will look into them all and hopefully find some. Would prefer to try them on in a shop rather than looking online so may have to take a trip to a Decathlon as suggested, or a running shop.

I second the higher state glasses-genuinely astonished at how anti slip they are!

AuntieStella · 23/05/2024 22:40

I like FlipBelt, and they are wide enough for all sorts of phones. If you get a Flipbelt Zip (either the original one or a lookalike) then keys are safe in there too.

Decathlon sunglasses are good and inexpensive

Try Flanci for leggings (capri or full length, or their skorts) for good thigh pockets, good fit, good performance, drawstrings so they stay up and a zip pocket at the back for keys.

Theyweretheworstoftimes · 23/05/2024 23:26

Kyloe in the wild sunglasses. Every single time. I have multiple pairs and have gifted them and they are brilliant. Sweaty Betty does a good belt for keys and phones and what not.

Sammysquiz · 24/05/2024 08:33

Another vote here for Sweaty Betty leggings (I have the Power ones) - best I’ve ever had, and they’ve lasted for years. Though I would caveat this by saying I’ve heard the quality has gone done lately, which would be a shame if true.

AuntieStella · 24/05/2024 08:43

Sweaty Betty quality has never been better than other brands (except the really cheap/flimsy ones)

Their running belt is not the FlipBelt type. It's just a regular running belt at a higher price than the sort you get from SportsDirect (not a shop I really like, but their Karrimor running accessories are pretty darn good)

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 24/05/2024 09:49

Goodr sunglasses

Ron Hil running tights usually have a phone pocket in the waistband on the thigh, or both (eg: the Run Every Day tights).

I put my key on a shoelace round my neck.

Gottleogear · 24/05/2024 17:14

Myiaur sunglasses are brilliant. They don't move even if I pop them on my head. Hope the pic attaches

I use an adjustable belt which fits my phone and keys.

My leggings are goodmove from M&S, which have leg and waistband pockets but I prefer using the belt

How about a visor instead of sunglasses?
and it has to be Sweaty Betty power leggings or power shorts

Clevs · 29/05/2024 09:05

Thanks for all the suggestions. My birthday is coming up so I have asked for a pair of the Higher State glasses. Thought I'd try cheap ones first so don't lose too much if I don't get on with them.

As for leggings, I don't really need any but will look at Sweaty Betty for future purchases. The only reason I mentioned leggings is that I'm currently stuffing keys and phone into the one pocket, hence me asking for recommendations for a belt.

I have one more request though. I've entered a local 5km race tonight. But of a last minute decision but it popped up in a local Facebook group a few days ago. It will be my first race since I've started running - what do you all use to attach race numbers onto your t-shirts? I don't really want to use pins and I vaguely remember seeing some sort of clip advertised that avoids making holes.

OP posts:
GuppytheCat · 29/05/2024 10:52

Can't help there as I do just pin the number! If the pins are pointy enough they won't make rips in the shirt. Avoid anything that might fret on your skin on the inside.
