Hurt knees on leg extension- ok to run?

I lifted heavy on the leg extension this week. My knees had felt fine since and it wasn't until I went to use the machine again that I noticed pain in my knees. I've since googled it and there is a bit of a warning against using this machine as it can hurt your knees but I didn't know that. Will steer clear in future.

Anyway, I wanted to try a long easy run/walk today but wasn't sure whether I should with the knee thing. It doesn't hurt to run or walk so think it will be ok.

Asking on here in case anyone has had something similar.

Funnily enough I used this machine for the first time yesterday because my NHS physiotherapist set it as an exercise for me to improve the muscles that can stabilise and protect my arthritic knee.
So I don't think this machine is bad for the knees as such, even if it may have caused some irritation if you overdid it with the weight or the manner of your movement.
Sorry - not very helpful as a response. But I just had such a good experience on the machine yesterday. It did feel like it was engaging the right muscles to support my poor knee. I was using a very low weight though so perhaps not comparable.

I’d expect pain within 48 hours if you were going to gtt eat any and hope you’ve had a lucky escape. Personally I also think this is such a dangerous machine that it should be banned. It’s not a movement with weight that we would ever do with our bodies under any circumstances, it’s so bad for your knees, I genuinely would give that machine a miss. Triceps dips and flys (both on a bench) are notorious for causing injuries too. I’m female but I learned a lot about dangerous exercises and safer alternatives from AthleanX on YouTube, he’s well qualified and knowledgable, I always intuitively Fritz that the leg extension was dangerous. If it was me I’d do the walk but not the run just to avoid putting able additional strain on your knees for a bit just in case to be on the safe side. The leg curl is fine btw, it’s the extension that’s the dangerous one X

Well, pain is your body's way of telling you that something is wrong, but only you know if the pain is too much to attempt a run. Having said that, I'm a runner and find that a gentle run often really helps stiff muscles to loosen up. The key is to start gently and allow your muscles to warm up over 1-3k and if you're still in pain at that point I think I'd call it a day. I certainly wouldn't be heading out on a big or hilly run, but a gentle one might help, as long as you're not in excruciating pain to begin with. Niggly, sore knees might be okay.

I think all the machines can cause harm if you use them too ambitiously, or without mindful observation of how your body is working with them, or with the wrong technique. I don't think the leg extension machine is harmful in itself. We just all do things a bit wrong a lot of the time. I know I have. Prob the reason for my arthritic knee!

Whilst I lifted heavy it is something that I have worked and practised for a decent length of time so built up to it.

Agree with the poster that said it is an unnatural movement. I will steer clear in future.

Decided against the run. Taking bank holiday off and will get back to it next week.
