Combatting a double knicker line/crease under running tights

I have standard, boring cotton knickers for exercising I thought were OK but the other day I caught sight of my back view in a full-length mirror and realised that my knickers create a deep crease across the buttock that looks awful. Not a mere panty line but an indentation or crevasse!

Are there any types of underwear that would eliminate this line that are not thongs? If they would support the buttocks as well that to minimise wobbling and jiggling that would also be great.

I can't believe I've been running in front of the guy I like at Parkrun with my massive knicker indentation on display! I say "in front" but luckily he's actually way, way ahead of me.

I wear no VPL shorts from M&S and they seem to look okay.

Buy knickers 2 sizes too big. I've been doing it for years and it's a game changer. They don't fall down but just lie on the skin and create no lines anywhere. Give it a go!

Agree with the big knickers- I always buy bigger and they don't cut into your flesh at all and are much more comfy for running.

I have some shorts from Runderwear and they're very good for non-VPLing.

HummingbirdChandelier · 03/04/2024 09:34

No VPL shorts are good. Asda do nice ones. Not cotton though: it always shows. Buy the shorts a bit big.

Do not buy giant cotton knickers: you’ll look like you’re wearing a nappy 🙈

We call this look "4 bums" 😄

I have a dancing daughter so it has always just been named this since I can remember. She wears thongs with leotards/tights, but I wear the no seam no vpl knickers under my leggings (seeing as I cannot wear thongs).

I had quite a giggle at your parkrun woes.

The only problem is the seam free no vpl don't seem to come in cotton.

Most running leggings have a gusset so you don't need knickers. Compression leggings will stop the wobble

Honestly, standard shorts style or high leg two sizes too big doesn't look in any way odd or nappy-like - just like normal knickers but with no VPL. I'm tempted to post a photo.

It sounds like your knickers are too small if they are cutting into you.

I tend to wear the cotton low rise shorts type in my actual size and they fit generously anyway snd definitely don't make marks on my bum, or I wouldn't wear them, they would be uncomfortable. There is a slight line in lighter coloured gym clothing, but so what? I am wearing pants. Get over it.

Agreed. If I'm going for a run in my bicycle short length shorts (just above the knee) I won't wear any pants with them as they have a gusset. Very black so you wouldn't be able to see through. Super comfy.

Edited

I find knickers in my actual size, by which I mean the size I need in trousers, they do show a line. So I'm normally a 6 in trousers and I buy knickers in a 10 and it's solved everything. If I bought a 10 in trousers they'd be round my ankles

But if buy 'your correct size' means buy the size that doesn't cut in at all, completely ignoring the size you are in other clothes, then we're talking about the same thing.

Stretchy granny pants 😁
Bonus, they help with belly jiggle too.

I've got a pair of Runderwear that I keep for long runs.
