Had surgery on my eye .
been told that after having to sleep sitting up all the time , I can now start to have shorts walks . And gentle exercise
prior to the op and the bedrest after it - i used to , at 60, lift weights ( only 4 kg) at home x3 a week and on the other days walk half and hour to an hour.was feeling good and was wanting to work towards a stronger feeling .
I now feel completely exhausted , washed out , pale and heavy from enforced rest .
I eat a nutritious lunch daily but have snacked out of boredom as ive not even been able to look at screens or read.

I feel ive lost my fitness and when i try to have a v short walk i feel tired and just go back to bed .

can anyone suggest a gentle routine?
i think i need encouragement.

please note i cannot do exercises that put pressure on the eyes like downward dog .

I am hoping someone will tell me that i can regain my fitness as i feel a bit challenged about it right now .
thanks .

Did you have anaesthetic? I wouldn't be surprised if you haven't lost your fitness, but are still just tired from the anaesthetic and/or the healing. It took me a long time after surgery to get feeling well again just from that - so I'd be really tired and napping every day. But once that was over and I could start walking etc again, my fitness wasn't that different. (Not that I was ever very fit!). But don't underestimate how much surgery and healing can take out of you. I think gentle walks is probably the best start.

Yes you can regain your fitness. But you’ve had surgery and it does take awhile for your body to get over that trauma - it is invasive, so needs healing time plus the effects of any meds.
Listen to your body, if it needs rest, then rest. Just start with gentle walking, maybe ten- 20 minutes once per day then twice per day and build from there. Make it a challenge eg walking around the block or to the park and back getting quicker each time might help? Or walking as far as a chapter or two of an audio book? Just to give you something to aim for and build upon. When sitting down maybe some gentle chair based exercises and stretching. If you can, maybe follow some online gentle exercises? (Sorry not sure if you are able to tolerate looking at moving screens as yet). Following something online might help you get back into the swing of things until you are able to do more varied exercise and get back to your old routines.

Lack of activity is really draining. I know that sounds counter intuitive but it will take time for your body to recover, and I am sure that the psychological effects of the surgery can impact physically too.

Make sure you are keeping hydrated, and don’t be disheartened if you don’t spring back instantly to how you were pre surgery.

A short daily walk may be your best bet.

(I had surgery a few years ago where I had to have complete bed rest for a week- it was horrible but I gradually walked a bit further each day)
