Big pants

I'm overweight but working on it. Just starting out with 5 mile walks. All good.

Except for my arse! Despite showering when I get home I am getting thrush/infections in the crack of my bum, I assume comes from the sweating and chaffing.

What undies, pants, knickers should I be looking for, to combat this?

And, whilst I'm here.... does chaffing powder/cream actually work? Could I put it under your boobs and in my arse crack??? Or is it just for thighs?

Thank you and god bless Mumsnet for being a place where I can ask these questions!!!!

I wear cotton everything where possible. Yes this means I am not wearing suck me in gym shark bum enhancing leggings I am wearing cotton ones that prob show my pants if I squat but this is my way to less thrush! Yes it works as does a lubricant type cream even just Vaseline. Get the air to skin as much as you can, don’t sleep in pants. Did you treat the thrush? If it’s fungal you will need a fungal treatment

ChristmasLightsLover · 01/04/2024 14:29

Thank you @Menora - so big pants from m and s would be fine?

And Vaseline, so I just wipe it off when I come home then, before my shower? Or do you leave it on?

I would use a fungal cream until it’s better but you could use a barrier cream of any kind to stop rubbing and then gently wash it off when you get back

ChristmasLightsLover · 01/04/2024 15:16

Thank you @Menora ! Am on canesten at the moment. Fingers crossed it clears up soon. Am googling big cotton pants...

You could consider some running leggings or running shorts. They might not seem obvious as they're man made fabrics, but they're designed to be close fitting (so no fabric folds to chafe - you don't wear underwear with them) and they wick sweat away from the skin. They also wash well and dry quickly. Cotton pants the rest of the time though!

I agree with others that an anti fungal cream would be the first step to treat thrush. If you do want a barrier cream then look at cycling websites. Cyclists deal with chafing in the intimate areas quite regularly and they have specific barrier creams to deal with this - usually listed as chamois cream, commonly known as butt butter!

How about a loose skirt or dress combined with big cotton pants? It will get some ventilation in and if it's a bit chilly might give you some encouragement to go a bit faster ;)

Seriously though, I mostly wear skirts for hiking because the seams on trousers rub and its much easier to pee in a skirt!

ChristmasLightsLover · 05/04/2024 20:04

Thank you @Bridgertonned - I am using canesten but it's not quite shifted it. I think running shorts may be a way forward.

@StamppotAndGravy I feel quite self conscious in a skirt. But think it would be good for fresh air! And it would be great for peeing...I really can't work out how I would pee and hold a dog lead and keep my leggings out of the way at the same time.

Go skirts and no knickers as much as you can. Obviously long skirts are best for this 🤣

www.mountainwarehouse.com/womens/dresses/

Take a look at these! They're officially outdoor wear. Everyone looks silly in craghopper trousers and a fleece (or running leggings) but no one minds because they're busy doing outdoors, so see if you can stick these dresses in the same mental pigeonhole. There are some jumpsuits, which would allow for commando, but not so much easy pee...

Vaseline should work against the chaffing. You don't need to wipe if off when you get back, just wash it off in the shower. Don't put anything on after that, let the skin breathe as much as you can.

unsync · 07/04/2024 23:18

I'm chunky. I have just found m&s good move exercise knickers with cotton gusset. Previously had all cotton, but they don't wick sweat. I also have lucy locket loves leggings which are also sweat wicking. Body Glide is good for chafing although I really only use it for my wetsuit. However, what is good for pits and under boob is Wild deodorant, I guess it would be the same for your bum crack too. Modern, sweat wicking synthetics are great and don't forget a sports bra whilst you're at it. I can recommend Elomi Energise, boobs stay put but also comfortable.

ZiggyZowie · 07/04/2024 23:23

If you get sore under boob rash and it's smelly put athletes foot powder on .

It's the same fungus as the feet I was told by GP

ChristmasLightsLover · 11/04/2024 21:35

@unsync Thank you for the recc on pants. On the m and s site there are midi pants. Are they the ones that you refer to please? Ta.

@ChristmasLightsLover I'd get the 100% cotton ones not the ones with 5% lycra, they always seem to make me sweat more! Tea tree oil is antifungal, Faith in Nature make good toiletries including soap with this in and they are not extotionately priced. There is also a cream, that home bargains often have in their medicine's section for £2, by lanes with tea tree and witch hazel in it which is anti fungal and anti inflammatory.

They do sell out fast, hopefully there's a new drop soon or there is a fb group for pre-loved.
