Les Mills - where to start?

I signed up to the 14 day trial and am finding navigating the site really confusing.

I could decide to do a type of workout and pick one out, but beyond that, I don’t really get what all the other sections are on the ‘Explore’ page. I feel like there might be actual programs I could follow.

I also feel like there are so many types of workout that I don’t really know where to start.

Any pointers?

I think you need to start with what you are trying to gain from doing the workouts? Are you looking for cardio? More of a low impact yoga type exercise? Weights?

Don't start with Barre. Unless you're (a) very happy with your current state of flexibility, or (b) Darcey Bussell.

Body Balance is a gentle way in.

It depends what you want - there are a huge range of programmes that focus on different things.

Pick a few you like the look of and do the intro classes to those, then a few more if you like them, and then re-assess. I'd focus on 3/4 programmes at first at most and get the hang of them and learn the moves properly.

I find it easier to look at the website first, pick what I am going to do, and then cue it up on the tv or relevant device. You can then tag things as favourites.

I wouldn't start with Pump unless you have done weights before as it is high reps low weights so easy IMO to use bad form and pick up an injury.

I think Les mills is brilliant - so much to choose from but it does take a little tme to find your way around.

Thanks everyone. I’d like to do some cardio, some strength (dumbbells rather than a barbell) and some flexibility.
I did a stretch thing and a Tone which I liked. And found hard!

Oh and now I’ve found the app as well. I think I’m struggling to work out what all the different types of workout are.

Balance - mix of pilates, tai chi and yoga
Attack - high impact aerobics
Combat - martial arts based with kicking and punching
Pump - weight based using barbell and loose plates/dumbells

That's the only ones I do but at a sports centre rather than in the house

Depending on your current fitness level:
Sh'bam (dance class) or Attack. I love Sh'bam. So much fun.
Strength: Pump. I'm pretty sure they have an instructor on stage using dumbbells or just the plates
Flexibility: Body Balance which is called Flow on the app. Diana does the class in some amazing outdoor scenery.
Try some of the 20min short classes to get you started

I think I’m making some sense of it, was away for a long weekend, but have done a couple more Tone, a BodyBalance and a Shapes. Also a Bodycombat but I didn’t feel like it was doing all that much, maybe I couldn’t get it quite right yet.

I love Les Mills on demand :) but yes I agree there’s lots on there and it can be hard to know where to begin.. Why don’t you try one of the challenges.? Either the optimal mix for April , which has a bit of everything , or Fast Fit. Also there is a new bootcamp starting next week which I know will be hard but amazing - 10 workouts over two weeks.
