How to listen to C25K when running

What's your set up for listening to music ir apps like c25k when running? Where do you put your phone? Which headphones/earphones work best and actually stay in?

OP posts:

I have wireless headphones that hook round my ears, and I put my phone in my pocket.

BogRollBOGOF · 15/02/2024 06:55

I have bluetooth aftershokz headphones that wrap around my head, partly to hear ambient noise like traffic, partly because I can't keep in-ear things in.

My phone is usually in a little waist belt.

TheTripThatWasnt · 15/02/2024 07:31

I use bone conducting headphones. Being able to hear ambient noise is important to me, and I think it's important for safety too. I can hear the ttaffic, but also the sounds of other people around me.
I generally listen to podcasts/audio books, and have no issues hearing spoken word unless I'm running along a busy main road (on the pavement, obviously!)

Phone is in the pocket on my shorts/leggings. I never buy 'bottoms' without a big enough pocket for my phone.

I have Bluetooth headphones and my phone is in my shorts/leggings pocket. I only buy running bottom that have the slide in pocket for phones.

When I started running years ago I used an armband for my phone and earphones with a cord that I just let fly about when I ran. It was fine, but I prefer the setup I have now.

flipbelt and air pods for me.

I listen to podcasts as like a previous poster I like to hear around me - can get annoying with a chatty c25k coach!

FlipBelt | Classic Running Belt

An easy to use, comfortable running belt that doesn't bounce or ride up. The perfect way to carry your smartphone and other essentials.

My running trousers were all made before phones got so big

Same as this

I make sure my phone will fit in my pocket before buying it! It's one of my main criteria.

WetBandits · 15/02/2024 07:59

I only run on the treadmill because my knees can’t handle pavement running, I just put my phone on the ledge of the treadmill so I can watch the countdown of how long I have to suffer the ‘run’ segments of each session 😂😂😂

nightnightcircus · 15/02/2024 07:59

I have a running belt with a zip pocket for my phone and keys. I no longer take my phone at all now though as I’ve got an Apple Watch.

SisterAgatha · 15/02/2024 08:00

I had big overear headphones which worked for a big but eventually began to break my hair. So currently I don’t run outside as I only have plugged in iPhone earphones which would fall out. On the treadmill it seems ok but the run is uninspiring.

Changingplace · 15/02/2024 08:00

I use a little bum bag for my phone and keys and have chunky over ear Bluetooth headphones that aren’t going to fall off.

SisterAgatha · 15/02/2024 08:01

As for carrying stuff - keys in bra, iPhone in hand, Spotify and C2k app running at the same time (eventually you bin off the c2k app and just run) tissues in pocket or bra

BingoMarieHeeler · 15/02/2024 08:02

I also have bone conducting aftershokz but prefer my Soundcore over-head headphones which also have ambient sound setting. Phone in pocket after trying lots of annoying arm band phone holders. And a key safe at home so don’t need to take my keys 😄

SisterAgatha · 15/02/2024 08:03

Over ear wearers - I prefer these myself but my hair breaks (at the root where the band sits)

so any recommendations taken!

BingoMarieHeeler · 15/02/2024 08:06

@SisterAgatha wow that’s a horrible problem to have! I have these and the head band is very padded so might work?

SisterAgatha · 15/02/2024 08:08

My band is padded so that’s the problem I think. I considered those head band things (and used to get them advertised to me but don’t know 🤔 ) mine are just some very cheap blue tooth ones I’ve had for about 8 years off Amazon.

maybe I need some small 80’s style ones

SisterAgatha · 15/02/2024 08:09

I mean head band like the big hair band things that look like scarves 🤣 god it’s early and I can’t type or think 🤣

decionsdecisions62 · 15/02/2024 08:10

Air pods and phone in zipped pocket in my running top.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 15/02/2024 08:11

Like others i use Shokz bone conducting headphones. My phone and keys are in a small bum bag.
I see someone mention carrying their phone in their hand, and occasionally see people doing this. It's probably not great to do that as holding what is effectively a small weight in one hand will affect how you move your arms when running, and thus your whole running gait.

dancinginthewind · 15/02/2024 08:37

I just hold my phone in my hand and don't use headphones. The app I use says very little and I am either running along the road where there is a lot of traffic noise or along paths which are fairly quiet. I have had a couple of surprised looks from walkers when the voice has said something just as I've gone past them but a couple have recognised it as C25k and been encouraging.

Same - I haven’t found headphones I get along with and I like to be able to hear sounds around me. I put my phone on the lowest volume I can hear it and put it in my leggings pocket
