Exercise bike - Peleton/nordic track

I have a personal trainer at the moment and it's costing me around £300 per month. I can't keep affording it - I did it to boost my health/fitness and mental health. It has worked so I don't want to stop. I was thinking I could reduce costs by getting a bike or similar.

Has anyone got any experience of these? I am not good at competitive stuff as I will inevitably be last and that will not help me. I liked the look of the Nordic track with the bike ride visuals. Can my family hop on and have a go too without upsetting my tacking/progress? I've tried looking at costs but am finding it a bit confusing.

Does anyone have experience of these and the costs? Can you do workouts as well?

So many questions! Sorry. 😊

I thought peloton were in the process of going bust, so wouldn’t personally be buying there.

i have a Nordic Track cross trainer. You can buy the subscription incredibly cheaply. I think it’s about £10 a month through the Apple Store but I got 3 years for £35 from a reseller.

And yes, my teens use it too, no problems.

Are you looking to replace the PT or to reduce them and do some workouts alongside?
My suggestion is to get yourself a few sets of dumbells and follow Caroline Girvan on YouTube. She has a whole range of workouts and most are in a series format so you can choose one and follow along. She would be your PT.
If you are looking for cardio to supplement the PT then a spin bike is a good idea but there are bikes far cheaper than Peleton.

I have a peloton and love it. You have a profile so yes others can use it by having their own profile, like Netflix basically

As part of the membership/app you've got

Spin - you can do music focused rides or ones called power zones which are calibrated to your level and more fitness focused, working in particular zones. Also scenic rides and lane break which is like a game you ride
Barre/pilates/yoga - I got a swivel attachment for the screen but you can just link the app to your TV or use your phone
Weights - body weight and dumbbell based classes, full body or upper/lower, arms etc
Outdoor - walks and runs
Meditation

There's
Collections - groups of classes so themed like black history month, top Spotify songs of the year
Programmes - ones like ride for beginners, total strength, road to 5k

Hope that helps!

Oh and membership is £39pm then cost of bike/shoes

Why don’t you just get a pt to check in once a month
you don’t need them there every time

theconfidenceofwho · 18/02/2024 01:39

I have a Peloton & absolutely love it. Agree with @PawsisShady comments.

People on other threads say FB and Ebay are awash with Pelotons at present (someone is trying to sell hers). It might be worth taking a look.

I've got a Peloton on trial. We've really taken to it but we've only had it for a week so we'll see this out and then decide. It's worth it for us because it's cheaper than gym memberships and it's flexible around additional newly acquired care responsibilities.

It might be worth a look round, OP.

I will, thanks all. I am hoping to stop the pt. Might do an exercise class once a week but need something handy that will keep me going. I am over 50 so think I need some weights, but weights plus cardio would be best. Family would also use. I've just seen one called the apex so might look at that. Thanks for your help.

I've an ifit account for my treadmill, which will be the same app for a Nordic Track bike, and find it excellent.

There are some great hiit and strength classes on there including boot camp series by the likes of Kayla Itsines.

They've unfortunately stepped away from the live studio class format which is used to enjoy, but there is a solid catalogue of bike classes to follow.
