If you WfH - what’s your step count per day?

Ok so since Covid I have been 100% WFH.

I looked up my pre Covid step count (when I worked 3 days in town) and on my work days it was 15k+ on my home days (when not working) it was 5k ish.

Now I average 10-11k every day which personally I think is ok. This is one school run (10 min walk total), usually a 20-30 min walk at lunch and then just general being a mum. At weekends it’s usually a 50 min walk each day. I feel active. I also do short 20/30 min workouts 3-4 times a week. I can’t really do more due to a health (cardiac) condition so intense exercise is off the table currently.

so if you wfh what’s your step count like? I can’t see how I can fit more in while still working 24 hours a week but I’m gaining weight so interested to know if others manage more in terms of steps at least.

I aim for 10k but my weekly average works out around 8k usually! My 2024 goal though is to be more consistent 10k

evilkeneivel · 10/01/2024 21:57

About 12k on the days I work from home (3). I find it much harder to get my steps on days I drive to work.

DGPP · 10/01/2024 22:01

About 10k as a I walk at lunchtimes

BellyDancer124 · 10/01/2024 22:02

12k minimum, today just over 17k.
That's a lunch walk and then a Pilates class this evening (20mins walk there and back)

I have a walking pad for days that I'm stuck inside. I think it's so important to stay active when WFH, it's easy not to be so I'm always aware Smile

Atissue123 · 11/01/2024 06:56

Walking pad - need to investigate this!!

I find it easier to get more steps on WFH days as I walk the dog and go to the gym.

ProfessionalTeaDrinker · 11/01/2024 07:02

Well you are all doing much better than me! Over the Christmas holidays without the school runs I was barely hitting 3k some days. Weather was shocking as well, which didn't help me get out after work and I work school hours so don't have a proper lunch. Term term it's much more like 8-15k depending on clubs/activities after school. I occasionally even manage to go for a run, love those days!
My aim for 2024 is to get out running more and keep moving!

megletthesecond · 11/01/2024 07:02

I only wfh one day a week. I still make sure I get my 14k target. Walk / litter pick around the block before I start, bins and tidying in lunch break, walk to supermarket when I finish.

piscofrisco · 11/01/2024 07:08

Hahaha. About 500 steps if I'm lucky! I get half an hour for lunch and the rest of the time have to be visibly online. So I get less steps in then when I worked in an office and could actually walk around a bit sometimes. It's one of the raisins I'm going back to work in an office in a few weeks-I feel literally chained to my desk.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/01/2024 07:11

Last year it was 11.8 k on average. But that's only because I work pt and DH and I try to get out for a walk most days, those days come in higher. If I don't do an actual walk it's a lot lower, 3-4 k.

Heatherbell1978 · 11/01/2024 07:12

I aim for 10k every day but there are some days it's about 5...I do have kids but school is close by and DH does morning run. I used to be much better at a lunch time walk or jumping on the treadmill so I need to get back to that in 2024. No excuses, just laziness!

spriots · 11/01/2024 07:13

About 3-5k - school run (very close) and sometimes a short errand. I sometimes manage a 20-30 min exercise video.

On an office day, it is 10-13k - lots of walking as part of my commitment

Atissue123 · 11/01/2024 09:47

Thank you, this makes me feel a bit better! I have also realised that in lighter days it's easier because I live somewhere rural (and dark) and although I CAN walk at night it's not all that appealing alone. So in spring / summer 14k will be easier. My 10-11k seems reasonable as long as I keep up the short workouts. It's all about remembering isn't it...and taking a break!

@piscofrisco that sounds awful. Treadmill for under the desk?

piscofrisco · 11/01/2024 10:02

Even that won't work as I'm on video calls most of the day. Back to an office job it is for me. I haven't missed the commute but at least I will actually get to move Grin

eurochick · 11/01/2024 12:04

About 3-5k unless I go for a run, and then it is usually nearer 10k. I love wfh but the lack of functional movement in the working day does concern me.

On my days in the office it is usually 10-13k.

Welliwould · 13/01/2024 17:28

I'm 100% WFH, have been since 2018 (so pre-covid). On a very busy day workwise or if it's raining I'll get 6-7k, on a normal day then it's 8-9k. on weekends I usually get 12-14k. I have a sit stand desk and if I'm standing I gently march on the spot or do toe taps. I walk the dog every day unless it's raining at lunchtime (she refuses to walk in the rain). Can't walk in the evenings as no pavements or lighting where I am, it's not safe to walk in the dark on the roads, even if I lit myself up like a christmas tree I'd still be taking my life in my hands.
I just try and make the most of daylight in the winter.
I should add in home workouts a few days a week, but it's not something I've done before so it's a new habit I need to build and I haven't really got into the swing of it yet. I expect that'll really help once I figure out how to fit it in.

coatonthewashingline · 13/01/2024 17:38

Hmmm. I have a meanie step counter watch, and I need to walk about 5 miles to get to my target 11000. DH has a Fitbit and is able to get to 10000 taking the dog out twice for 15 mins and doing a lot of typing and fidgeting!
i do less when I go to work as I cycle there rather than walk.
