Strength training programme for beginner- recommendations?

Hi, can anyone recommend a strength training programme I could follow at home that would be suitable for a beginner.

I’m not technically a beginner but I feel like it as I got injured last year and had to stop running, and then stopped the strength stuff as well due to general life overwhelm. So feel like I’m starting from scratch. but desperate to get back to something as feel stiff and painful 😣

I have a very weak left side from my injury so need something that will build up slowly. I was doing Caroline G and they were great, but feel her workout may be a bit much to just jump back in with. Anything similar out there that would be on You Tube/ easy to follow ? I like having someone to follow along rather than exercises on paper.

don’t mind paying a bit but would be good to try out a few before committing anything. Thank you.

I found Caroline G too much so was following Sydney Cummings for a while. She generally offers up suggestions to make the moves harder or easier. She also trained through her pregnancy so you might like to look for the sessions she recorded then as they did feel easier.

Like you I've had a break from training and have recently discovered "Lift with Cee" which again, feels less pressurised.

I have recently been trying Yogabody, they have 2 x 15 minute videos daily, one for strength and one for stretch. These generally cover two or three different exercises. I really like their teaching style, they talk a lot about what they're doing and why and they're very clear about what to watch out for, and what's not so important. Also 15 minute sessions are doable. They might not be your thing but they're definitely worth a look.

Thank you both for the recommendations I will definitely have a look at them. The yogabody ones sound great for busy days.

If you are recovering from an injury I'd suggest a few sessions with a PT first, just so they can see you move and suggest anything that might help you build your strength back up safely.

Would it be worth consulting a Personal Trainer? They would be able to measure your level of fitness and take your injuries into consideration.

I have had a quick Google for a PT but they’re all a bit intimidating and I live out of town so between work and kids it’s hard enough to fit exercise in at home without traveling.

I had physio after my injury and was signed off after 6 weeks. He was very thorough getting me to run on the treadmill and show him the exercises each week and he said I was all good. I will do the exercises he gave me too but it’s a bit boring to just do them.

I’ve followed Kayla Itsines SWEAT app for years and years. It’s grown massively and there are many trainers on there now, not just Kayla, with specialisms in everything from strength, pilates, cardio, barre, yoga... I just checked my app and there at least six different trainers on there each with multiple strength programmes to follow.

The one think I would say is that without the heavier weights you’ll have access to in the gym, your choice on the app will be a bit more limited, although there is still loads to choose from.l, especially as a beginner.

I also follow the food part of it but you don’t have to.
