Gym leggings - why so hard

MistyTrains2 · 03/11/2023 21:22

I'm trying to find gym leggings.

I have bigger thighs and a small waist, so generally a Small is way too skin tight, but a Medium gapes a little at the waist. Plain shiny material tends to show cellulite through it no matter how thick.

Alphalete - good but thigh friction has caused a tear.

Gym Shark and Fabletics shiny ones - show cellulite.

Need to be squat proof.

Any ideas?

Have never seen anything (gymwear-wise) but cheap tat in Decathlon (maybe it's just the one near me).

And when you use it, what is the actual problem?

Gwenhwyfar · 04/11/2023 20:44

Someone suggested M&S, but the leggings I got from there were much worse than Decathlon.

Try uniqlo gym leggings

FatCatatPaddingtonStation · 04/11/2023 20:46

I wear the M and S yoga good move range for the gym, they’re great.

Tikiboo are great, very comfy. Lululemon are my favourite but very expensive. Sweaty Betty are similar. Fabletics are very good quality and if you sign up as a new member and then cancel after your first order, you’ll get two pairs of leggings for about £24. I’ve used multiple email addresses to take advantage of this. They’re crazy expensive otherwise.

I'm a similar shape and always return to Sweaty Betty Power 7/8 leggings. But like a PP said, they’re not all squat proof (they don’t claim to be though). I find it depends on whether patterned or plain. The black are the worst for me. So always check what they’re like at max squat in a bright light. Their black camo is squat proof on me.

Gymshark Power are squat proof on me but I find them too high waisted.

My protein have a huge deal on - have a look!

Burnamer · 04/11/2023 21:04

Can anyone recommend running leggings that stay up and don’t show sweat patches (asking for a friend 😳)

TheKnittedCharacter · 04/11/2023 21:05

Sweaty Betty 7/8 power leggings.

I have at least 10 pairs. They are flattering, comfortable, and indestructible.

henrysugar12 · 04/11/2023 21:06

The best ones I have ever brought were from matalan!

Highly recommend TLC Sport for leggings, I’ve got about 7 pairs at this point, super high waisted too and no cellulite visible.

OfMark87 · 04/11/2023 21:08

Nike for me too. I have a small waist, big bum & thighs.

Also really like the asos own gym stuff. You can can get some leggings you can tie at the waist.

Somewhatchallenging · 04/11/2023 21:09

My best gym leggings are from Primark, I think.

Wowzel · 04/11/2023 21:10

I really like Tikiboo

CatchHimDerry · 04/11/2023 21:45

Another vote for Lululemon, all I will wear these days and worth the high price tag IMO

DinoDunks · 11/11/2023 08:51

I love tikkiboo too but find anything with a design just stretches over your fat bits and highlights them. Fine if you don’t care (let’s be honest most do) hence I like a solid colour and Nikes.

I recently got some yoga leggings from next which are nice and flattering. I did have to size up though.

I wear Sweaty Betty Powers (not completely squat proof) and Therma. Nothing else I've tried has been as good. I get them in the sales and BNWT.

I decided lighter-weight leggings that are comfy to wear won't be completely squat proof.

M and S GoodMove - used to be good and sometimes SB dupes but two recent pairs were a horrid sticky material that I found very hot and uncomfortable. They are squat proof because of the very dense fabric but I don't want to wear it.

Decathlon - they vary their styles all the time which is annoying (the website isn't very good so you may need to go and look at them therefore) but I have a couple of pairs of thermal ones (from a few years back) from there which have waistband, side phone and back zip pocket and pretty squat proof. They bobble a bit and don't keep their shape like SBs but like all the Decathlon kit I have tried they do the job absolutely fine at a reasonable price (if still the same).

Does squat proof mean not see-through? I always thought it meant stays up!

MistyTrains2 · 21/11/2023 23:06

Oh my god thanks for the Fabletics tip!

Yes! It means at full-stretch (or squat) the fabric will not show what’s underneath.

Unfortunately many ppl aren’t aware of what happens to their leggings when they bend over never mind squat or do a downward dog.
