Anyone a Peloton user?

Joppi · 15/10/2023 18:01

I’ve bitten the bullet and finally bought a peloton (bike+).

any recommendations for instructors or best functions of the bike you enjoy? I’ve seen there is a ‘stacking’ option as well as favouriting…. Is there a benefit to doing the classes live, instead of watching back later?

hoping to get experiences from others who have the bike (and are hopefully still using it!)

I have 10 week baby and not as able to get out to the gym as before, so hoping I can just jump on the bike for even 20 minutes to get a workout done especially as we get into winter and there may be more rainy days meaning long walks not as enjoyable

I love Sam and Cody. I would start with beginners class to get used to it. I've never done a live class only benefit might be a shout out. I use mine lots and have it positioned so I can use screen for other classes.

MooFroo · 15/10/2023 18:15

I’d looked at them ages ago but know I won’t use it 😬
good luck - they look amazing!

comfyshoes2022 · 15/10/2023 18:18

All the instructors are great - it just depends on what kind of music and vibe you enjoy. Try different instructors. The non-bike content — strength training, walks/runs, yoga, meditations — is also excellent.

SquashPenguin · 15/10/2023 18:18

Much prefer classes on demand, I think I’ve done two live classes in the four years I’ve had the bike! Ben, Erik and Cody are my favourites 😊

Kangarude · 15/10/2023 18:19

Hi, yes I have a Peloton. I’ve had it more than 3 years now and do something every day. Join the UK Ladies Peloton FB page. They are really friendly and the community is a big part of it.
You can filter rides many ways, so find a low impact ride With music you like, and jump in. Choice of instructors is going to be personal to you but there are so many, there is something for everyone.
I use it for riding, weight toning, stretching.
Welcome 😁

I browse classes on my phone when I have a quiet moment and add ones I want to do to my stack. That way, when I get on the bike, I just do the next class in my stack and don't have to scroll through on the bike to find one.

I do mostly on-demand classes, as the live ones are often at times that don't suit me.

It is nice to have a live leaderboard when you do a live class, and if you are on a "milestone" ride E.g. 50th ride, the instructor might give you a shout-out. But if you have a bike+, then be aware that the auto-follow function won't work in live classes.

Definitely start with a few beginner classes as PP said, and try lots of different instructors to see who you like. I have about half a dozen that I really like, and just do their classes.

LittleMy77 · 15/10/2023 18:35

I recommend the low impact rides to get back into it, if you want to ease in gently. I usually use it for spin and stretch classes

All the instructors are quite different - try a few short classes out to see what they’re like

I choose my instructors based on music (house, EDM etc) and style - I’m not a fan of ott peppy US ‘you go girl!’ type classes

I like mostly UK based - Ben Aldis, Leanne Hainsby and Hannah Frankson, Erik Jäger for German house music and Jess (can’t remember her name) slightly bonkers US red hair instructor who’s music is good. I also like Tunde for some classes

I never do live classes and gave up using the HR band supplied as i couldn’t get it to work

Its been a godsend tho doing even just a 20 min class every day!

Joppi · 15/10/2023 19:03

thanks all - thats really helpful! I’ll start with a beginners class and choose based on music (I like 80s and rnb).

@LittleMy77 agreed the ott US you go girl style not for me either 😂 so I’ll choose based on style too

hoping given it’s expensive that will keep me accountable in itself!

Is it the group "UK Ladies Peloton Community"? I see there's a UK Ladies Peloton page as well, don't know if they are same or not?

Reastie · 05/11/2023 21:18

Interesting thread - I haven’t worked out how to stack as I always have to search and find a new workout in between when doing more than one.

I like Tunde. Quite like Dennis, Ally, Hannah and Robyn too. Sam and Leanne are quite good but I don’t really get in with Cody. They’re all so different that you just work out which ones fit for you. I find Tunde really motivating.

Joppi · 05/11/2023 21:40

Yes I’ve had the bike a few weeks now and love it! I haven’t done much strength, yoga etc, mainly doing the cycles. So far loving Tunde and Cody! My cardio fitness is already improving which is great!

@Ebeneser It is UK Ladies Peloton Community. They are great and getting involved really helps with motivation

Kangarude · 06/11/2023 11:41

@Reastie If you select a class you like the look of, when you select it, there is a small box icon with a + sign on. Click on this and it will add a class to your stack. There is also an icon that looks similar to a flag.If you select that, it bookmarks the class so you can later just select your bookmarked classes.
Tunde is tough!

As a new user of a Peloton I am struggling with the pain I am experiencing from the saddle. Does this improve over time. Is there anything I can try to help the situation?

Joppi · 06/11/2023 12:23

@talk2304 yes I find it uncomfortable on the saddle but not painful. Hopefully someone can advise

Reastie · 06/11/2023 13:49

@Kangarude thank you - I'm going to give that a try - this could be life changing on my bike!

Re saddle sore - you can buy shorts that have padding in. I have a keiser spin bike that I use with the peloton app and find the seat pretty comfy so I haven't had that issue.

In theory it should improve over time as your bum gets used to it. The saddle isn’t the comfiest though. You can replace the saddle for a more comfortable one, or the easiest thing would be to get a gel saddle cover.

readingmakesmehappy · 06/11/2023 14:17

Leanne is one of my favourite instructors and I love Sam Yo. I find a lot of the American instructors too much - lots of high pitched and very intense yelling, lots of platitudes.

I really like Chelsea for yoga (can't stand Ross for the reasons above), and also Kirsten - pretty sure they have some postnatal classes too. I really want them to get a British yoga instructor.

Kangarude · 06/11/2023 16:15

@talk2304 make sure you are sitting quite far back on the saddle. There should be a ‘grabable’ bit of your bum hanging off the back. As others have said, you can buy cheap gel seat covers on Amazon (I haven’t tried one) or you can buy ‘women specific’ saddles that have cut outs to accommodate the female anatomy (if this applies) or padded cycling shorts. I have got used to it over time but I do use padded shorts for long rides.
Happy cycling everyone 🚴‍♀️

ChocolateCakeOverspill · 06/11/2023 16:17

Do Jenn Sherman’s singalong ride. It’s brilliant. You’re probably not going to break any records but you will smile and sing and feel uplifted

MrShady · 06/11/2023 23:40

Yes, 200 classes (spin) in and love it
I vary instructors depending how I feel and do a bit of power zone too
Also weights classes and stretches - Hannah Corbin has a brilliant 10 min hip stretch I do over and over
Usually do 20-30 min classes on weekdays and then 45-60 on weekends if I'm doing power zone stuff

I would say it's worth taking the extended warranty. My first bike had some issues and I've ended up with a total frame swap

(brighthair on the leaderboard)

Foon · 20/05/2025 14:20

How are you getting on with the bike @Joppi? I’m tempted but it is soooo expensive!!

Joppi · 20/05/2025 19:24

I love it @Foon ! Still using it lots, really convenient way to get a workout in if I don’t have the time/energy to go to the gym. I would recommend! It is an investment but I am incentived to exercise with the good music and instructors

You can get the original bike for much less than the bike+ these days. It is well worth it in my opinion for all the options there are available on the platform
