Manchester Marathon Accommodation

A slightly different running Q…

Anyone have any idea or opinion on which Premier Inn (or any hotel) is most conveniently located for the marathon? I’ve never been and would obviously like to book somewhere easy to get to from the airport and then to and from the actual race. I won’t be driving but happy to take whatever public transport there is or (slowly) walk.

thanks

I stayed in the city centre (one of the Premier Inns) and trammed to the start and back which was little bother. I think the bit of gentle walking around after was good for me, plus we trammed back out to the outskirts where we'd parked up after that.
When the tram terminated and its packed out crowd of post 5hr marathoners were faced with a flight of steps off the platform, there was a very impressive collective groan 😂

We needed a family room and following deferring due to injury, I hadn't rushed to book so closer options had gone by the time I'd sucessfully got through some HM+ runs.

2023 route, road closures, start times and everything else you need to know

google Manchester evening news
search line - marathon

are you looking at hotel at start or finish line ?
you can get tram from Manchester airport to both

I stayed in Deansgate which was walking distance of the metro station to take you near the start line.

We found an airbnb on the tram route near Trafford. Took our stuff and left at bag drop so no need to go back and pick it up later from where we stayed.
Easy access to tram is probably easier to find and cheaper than near to the start

I would look at the Salford/Trafford area hotels for easy access to the start/finish line

Thank you all. Am still looking at Spring marathons and Manchester is a front runner (no pun intended) but I’ve never been and just couldn’t work out where was best to base myself.
Any other suggestions for a good Spring marathon, ideally reasonably flat and somewhere with good transport links will be gratefully received!

Of the U.K. ones, excepting London, Manchester is the best.
If you want flat you can’t get flatter than Boston U.K. but it’s a fucker to get to and a slightly odd place…
Leeds got rave reviews but can’t imagine it’s flat!

Accommodation wise, the media city ones would be in walking distance of the start and there’s loads.

anywhere in the city centre is fine. There’s a train from the airport into Piccadilly (and some go on to stop at Oxford Road and Deansgate) and then the metrolink is right by the race village at old Trafford cricket club. There’s also the metrolink from the airport but the train is much quicker.
