Backpack for running - without bladder

Flyinggeesei234 · 11/09/2023 18:26

Hi any recommendations for a backpack without water bladder for running please?

This would be for a short run to the gym with no need for hydration, but I need to carry swim stuff etc.

TIA.

take the bladder out. you surely don't store in with bladder in anyway? then it's a compact backpack

Love mine. The fold out cycle helmet net thing means you can put eg a fleece or towel in that outside bit in dry weather, if inside not big enough.

Thanks @tallsmallmum yeah I’m leaning that way, but a lot seem to have pockets I don’t need and are not designed for a commute, more for ultras. I have race vests and packs, just thought there might be something for the commuter market I hadn’t seen yet.

I think you'll find most of them have the facility for a bladder but you buy that bit separately anyway

Superb! Thanks @MsMartini - do you use yours for running? Or do you find it snug enough that it stays put? Thanks again.

Have a look at these - they're mainly marketed for cyclists, but places like RunnersNeed recommend them to runners as well.

Very light, plenty of adjustable straps to get a good fit, various sizes, and useful little pockets on the waist strap for stashing keys etc

I covered hundreds of running to work miles with a cheap Karrimor rucksack. It’s still going strong although I live too far away to run commute now! I always thought about upgrading it but could never justify the cost when it did the job. Just the right amount of pockets and was comfortable.

You will probably have better luck if you search for a 'fastpack' than a running backpack as you will get a pack with slightly more capacity but still designed to be run with.

Thanks for the suggestions here. I needed
to adjust my search terms! Really appreciate the responses.

@Flyinggeesei234 , yes I run with mine! Side pockets for water, inside separate pocket so can put sweaty kit in there afterwards, net thing means I can carry extra layers that don't fit inside, can put eg foldable shopping bags inside too as well as eg folding jacket, pocket on belt for keys/snacks etc. It stays put with the straps done up fine.

I like running to places and doing things (eg coffee with friend/walk in park/pop to shops) and it means I can do that in most weathers.

@MsMartini me too! Thanks again. I bought the pack you recommended and tried it out last night for a short run to the leisure centre. It’s very good. Fits a small swimming kit fine with room to spare.

I need to play around to get the fit a little
more snug but that’s just me not adjusting the straps properly.

Really pleased with all the features it has. It’s lightweight etc. job done.

@Flyinggeesei234 yayyyy, how satisfying. I have to play around with the straps and tuck the ends away, but do find it very useful - I've even fitted spare trainers in for if I am doing something different after the run!
