How much to increase weights at home by?

I have some 1.5kg and some 3kg ones and am looking to increase but I'm not sure how large a jump I should make. An anyone recommend? I was thinking of 5 but I don't know if this will be not enough too soon. I don't have endless amounts of money to spend. At the moment they have 5, 7 and 10 in stock. Would a jump from 3 to 10 kg be too much? Or is it a case of go for it and try?!

3kg to 10kg would be way too much unless you are using them for different exercises (eg 3kg for tricep curls and 10kg for deadlifts). I’d personally look for online exercises that use your body weight, squats, lunges, tricep dips, press-ups.

How are you finding the 3kg weights, e.g. how many reps can you do with good form? Remember that if you're using both weights at the same time that doubles the increase. I like resistance bands because they're cheap, versatile and make it easy to build up resistance gradually.

I would start with 5Kg and see how you feel when doing push reps (shoulder press, triceps kick backs)

you can probably do more pull reps (rows, deadlifts )

I’ve just been away and only had 6K and it was waaayy too much for shoulders and triceps. My form was dreadful and ended up using 2kilo and doing faster or more reps.

for me 4K is ideal, but need heavier for pulling if I want my arms to feel sore the following day.

I lift heavy and aim for a 5-10% increase in volume each time for each exercise. That could be a few more reps, a higher starting weight, a dropped set, or a feeler set of reps at a higher weight. Works for me. You can also adjust your tempo, i.e. slow into the move and explosive out. Or do a pause at the bottom of the squat for more time under tension.
