Hello mumsnetters!

I have recently put on a lot of weight and I'm really keen to lose it. It's affecting my self esteem

I have two young children at home and I can't do classes and gym no childcare but I'm sure there's things that I can do at home

I am going to overhaul my diet but any top tips would be great!

I know it's not an overnight thing but I'm hoping day by day to do better!

Tbh weight loss is about diet so calories/portion control.
You really can’t outrun a bad diet but you can lose weight without doing any exercise at all if needs be.
work out your tdee, for weight loss then reduce the calories by 15-20% to get a weight loss calorie target.

Log what you eat & drink on My Fitness Pal or somewhere so you can see where changes can be made.

TDEE Calculator: Learn Your Total Daily Energy Expenditure

Use the TDEE calculator to learn your Total Daily Energy Expenditure, a measure of how many calories you burn per day. This calculator displays MUCH more!

One of the best things you can do is walk every day. When my DD was young I had gained a lot of weight, and I lost over 20lbs just by going for an hours walk in the evenings. As soon as I had put daughter to bed, I'd go downstairs, get my trainers on and go out for a walk listening to a podcast or music. When I got back I had a shower and then really enjoyed my evening watching TV, feeling like I had "earned" it, and it put me in a much calmer mood as well, helped me sleep and relieved stress levels. Really recommend it. Obviously this only works if you have a husband / partner at home to watch child!! If not, is there another time of day you could work it in? I used to also sometimes go for a walk as soon as I'd dropped my daughter at nursery too, if I couldnt go in the evening.

I also ate a protein-rich breakfast e.g. two boiled eggs and a yoghurt. Even if you make no other changes, increasing your protein intake can have a really positive effect on your weight.

When DD was little, I used to wait until she had her nap then would do a workout at home, to a DVD.

I do a daily workout from YouTube nowadays (my DC are both teenagers). I'd recommend having a look at Lucy Wyndham-Reid's YouTube channel. She's very good, and has loads of workouts, ranging from about 5 mins and up, so they're doable if you've only got a few spare mins.

I bought an aerobics step from B&M (was about £12) and do YouTube workouts to it - there's loads on there from 20mins up.

If you have an Apple Watch I'd really recommend the Fitness subscription for at home workouts - you can filter according to time / equipment / difficulty. A friend swears by the Les Mills at home workout videos too.

The FatSecret app is really good and easy to use, and free. I lost about half a stone quite quickly on that.

Protein is your best friend.
