Running shoes for over pronators

Hello,

I'd be grateful to hear from experienced runners please. Following an ankle injury it has taken me some time to return to very slow jogging using the C25K. Following assessment and advice from a physio have started mid foot running to try and protect my subtalar joint. I am seven weeks into C25K and things seem to be mostly okay but my current trainers are very worn out (smallest toe is poking through the side of my left foot on today's run...)

I currently have Saucony Form foot but these now feel a bit tight and uncomfortable.

Does anyone have experience of mid foot running with overpronation? What shoes would you recommend I try? I mostly run on trail or paths.

Thanks!

I wear ASICS gel

I use Asics duomax for over pronation (but don't know if I mid foot run, off to google)

If your budget can stretch, Hoka are the best running shoes I've had. The Bondis are good for overpronaters

On Clouds worked for me. They are a rigid shoe with less cushioning than most but I am finally running without knee issues.

Can you get to a running shop? Lots of them will do gait analysis and recommend you a shoe, and you can run on them in the shop to see what suits you best.

Having said that we all need a stable shoe in our house and either have Asics GT 2000 or Gel-Kayano. Asics Outlet is cheaper, if you are happy with last season's version.

ASICS Gel Kayano here, but definitely echo getting to a proper shop and having gait analysis (and trying in loads of different pairs to get an idea.

Which ones? There are loads of different On Clouds. I have Cloudflyers which are a structured running shoe

ASICS Gel Kayano.. Sorted my shin splints right out

I have ASICS GT 2000 11 and get on well with them. But agree with the advice to go to a shop and try lots of different options to see what is comfortable.

I overpronate and wear Brooks Glycerine (previously had Adrenalines, until Brooks changed the shape slightly). I wear superfeet insoles in them. I have trail shoes too, but have done all my off road running in these this summer as the paths haven't needed the additional tread.

But honestly - get yourself to a running shop where someone who knows what they're talking about can assess fit and suitability. If you've had injuries before then choosing trainers based on what internet randoms think is unlikely to end well.

SirVixofVixHall · 20/08/2023 18:51

ASICS.
I haven’t run for ages , but I went to Runners Need and they made me run up and down the street, then told me that I over pronate and suggested ASICS which I found very comfortable and supportive.
I need to work on getting my fitness back so I am about to buy another pair.

Thanks again everyone

@overthehillswegoo my last three pairs have been Cloudventure but I don't think they make them any more, sadly.

Definitely get gait analysis done.
