Which one is best for a beginner?
Should I just try both and see what I like best?

I've done C25k as a total newbie and as rehab.

Looking at none to run in comparison, it's a more gentle build up in the early weeks. Useful if your fitness is limited in early weeks. Potentially repetitive if you have fitness and it's more about adapting to running.

The mid-sections of C25k can feel like they jump a bit but there is more progression in the blocks of running increasing but there is little repetition in weeks 5 & 6. The none to run has a gradual build up but there is a mental jump between 2min/ 5min/ 20min blocks. The time on feet is there and it's doable, it's believing it that's challenging.

25 or 30 mins is not going to be 5k for most newbies. It's a great foundation to get there though. 30-35 mins of continuous running is more typical of completing 5k, so that applies to either plan.

4 runs a week can be quite draining and rest matters. C25k is based on 3 runs a week.

Both look like equally viable options so I'd say that the clincher is your base fitness level and patience.

Thank you! Very helpful, I read your reply and went out and did my first ‘run’ with c25k before I could change my mind.
