Hybrid trainers

I've had a pair of New Balance Hierro v4 for about 4 years. Long enough that I can't now get another pair of the same shoes. They have finally become too stinky and knackered so I want to replace them.

I don't do a lot of full on trail running but I do some runs in muddy/wet conditions. When I bought them, they were described to me as 'hybrid' trainers. They have a chunkier grip, are much more cushioned, have a higher ankle support and are vaguely waterproof in comparison to the brooks ghost ones I wear for regular dry runs.

So Mumsnet, please give me your best hybrid trainer recommendations...

Anyone wear a new balance Hierro model now?

I have a pair of Hoka challenger which I seem to remember are hybrid. They cope perfectly well with trails, unless they're really slimy mud (plenty of that on my regular routes sadly) but also did fine on 'road' type conditions for a half marathon

There is a Hierro out but it's v7- fairly standard they do a new colourway etc each year and call it the new number or whatever

But, if you're running in them regularly, they probably should be replaced more often!

Thanks - I'll take a look at the Hokkas. Have they got a high drop?

Yeah - I've been through about 4 pairs of Brooks/Saucony in the same period but as I wasn't doing very many trail runs, I held on to them for longer. They've just given me a massive blister this weekend though so time to renew.

Is drop the difference in height heel to toe?
If unsure what might suit, try a local sports shop who can analyse gait and advise?
