Anyone experience of these fitness classes? I’m not sure which to opt for. TIA

Body pump is a lot easier and less cardio.

HermioneWeasley · 18/03/2023 20:15

Body pump is fast enough to count as cardio but doesn’t feature any jumping around and you build strength. Circuits is more cardio and more breathlessness

Circuits will use different pieces of equipment and you use the equipment for a set period of time before moving on (in my experience anyway).

Body pump uses a barbell and weights and you do a different music track for all the muscle groups e.g. back, chest, legs, arms, core, etc. You change your weights during the class depending which muscle group you are targeting.

I do body pump a couple of times a week as well as some cardio classes

Ah very interesting! I think I’ll try both classes out.

A new question. Is body balance more like yoga?

Body balance is a mix of pilates, yoga and tai chi

Thankyou

I love circuits! It's a good mix of cardio & agility (doing box jumps or bench squat jumps), and strength training. I lift heavy, but need to keep up my cardio training, and circuits is a great interval workout. I go hard & fast on the cardio bits, then much slower and as heavy as I can manage with good form on the strength intervals.

My gym does a circuits class with around 25 different stations, and we do 5 in a row, then a non-equipment blast such as sprinting on the spot, then move on to the next 5.

A minute on each station, with 15 seconds to change to the next. A great instructor & loud house music to keep us motivated. It's brill!

I like the way I can vary the way I do each station - fast cardio, slow & heavy weights.

Loved body pump! Hard but worth it

VaulterTech · 21/03/2023 16:43

I love both, if they’re on different times - do both!

Gymmum82 · 21/03/2023 16:46

Circuits will vary depending on instructors. Some are amazing. Some less so. Body pump is choreographed so they all follow the same pattern and are less likely to vary in terms of how good they are. Like anything though it depends on your goals. Personally I love group fitness. However it does have limitations

FLOWER1982 · 21/03/2023 17:01

Can you do both? I prefer circuits as it gets the heart rate up and a variety of exercises. Body pump is good for building muscle.

BlueHeelers · 21/03/2023 17:35

Body pump will tone muscle, but it won't build muscle. The weights aren't heavy enough & it's more cardio than strength training.

coffeeandcola · 21/03/2023 18:20

I do Circuits rather than Body Pump as it's my main cardio. We do sessions of 45s work to 15s rest and it's split into 3: lower, upper, core.

I only do strength training so do this for cardio and the instructor always makes it fun.

But as others say: try both and see what you enjoy.

megletthesecond · 23/03/2023 21:39

They quite different. I do both.
Body pump has the worst music known to mankind. It does my head in every week.

StaceyMeloni · 25/03/2023 19:36

OMG yes the bodypump music is so bad! Why is that?

Coastalvenues · 25/03/2023 19:40

Love the Body Pump music!

dementedpixie · 25/03/2023 19:46

I like it when the instructors mix it up and then they can put in the tracks you like best.

I often annoy my kids (and husband) when I tell them a track on the radio is a pump, attack or combat track Grin

coffeeandcola · 25/03/2023 20:10

If I hear a Pump song outside of Pump I start doing the moves.
