It's been years since I bought trainers for running in. Everything I see in the shops is trendy with massive air bubbles!!
What have you all found good for short runs?

ASICS are brilliant. You need to see how your foot lands when you run and go from there. There are lots of running shops that can help you.

I always get road shoes from a running shop. Curiously what is recommended for my gait changes each time. I currently have new balance but previous were mizuno. I think shoe design changes regularly too.
Off road I tend to wear innov8s. They don't change much and because I know they work for me, I pick them up in online sales.

Your foot shape, gait and terrain will influence what you need.

What cheapish ones would you recommend from Decathlon?
I just know I won't do this gait thing.

I currently wear Brooks, Ghost and Glycerin, for running. I'd recommend both. I bought some Salomon shoes for short trail runs, too, but don't use those much.

I run 5k in Asics from my local Sports Direct, I think they were about £40, and they have been great. I tried on a few and these seemed to be the most "bouncy". I'd previously run in Addidas with mixed results - I had to give up on one pair after a couple of weeks as they gave me shin splints.

I love ASICS, I take a slightly larger size in them than my usual size. I was recommended them by a guy who watched me run.

I've had a look in my local sports shop and they don't have the treadmill/video set up to analyse my run but I think I'll go with Asics

When we need new trainers - (which is often as 3 of my dc were county level runners), we head for a discount shopping centre (Mcarther Glen) with an Asics Store. Knowledgable staff, and good prices. £200 trainers can often get picked up for £50-£70.

But if you have wide feet, don’t bother with Asics. I am a fat 50 year old, who runs 5k, and I wear Nike Pegasus Zoom. I have been running for 18 months and have had no joint/shin problems. Again, my shoes are courtesy of the outlet centre.

I can’t wear ASICS, they are too narrow. My own personal preference is brooks, but I would really recommend going to a shop and trying some out!
