Hello!

I would like to start doing some exercise at home. I have a large amount of weight to lose and im a beginner at proper exercise. Any recommendations appreciated!

Well done for taking the first step towards a healthier life! That's often the hardest bit so well done.
If you don't do any exercise now, anything you will do is going to be a great start. Walking is a fantastic low impact exercise that will be hugely beneficial. If you can work up to a fast 5k walk, you'll do great.
I can't really recommend anything on Youtube (I'm sure others will) because I subscribe to Les Mills (lots of workouts on demand) but just want to say, what ever you do, will be a great start. You've got it!

Team Body Project is excellent and lots of low impact options.

There are lots of walking workouts on YouTube. Really good to start you off on your fitness journey without equipment but will start getting your heart rate up in a low impact way.

Brand Fitness on YouTube. Walking workouts with some light weights here and there. She’s absolutely lovely, relatable, encouraging and the music is just brilliant! Honestly, I think you’ll love that channel, good luck and well done you. I’ll be doing it too this year! 💖

Hi there,

Try, 'get fit with Rick', these are walking work outs and there's different step counts to try, you can try say 500 to 1000 steps and work up from there, he has some great advice too, the music he works out to is fab also.

Joe Wicks has a series for those who havent exercised for a very long time… much slower steadier moved just designed to get you walking s bit.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 30/01/2023 11:26

Get fit with Rick is a good suggesion
i really like Tiffany Rothe generally fun and easy to follow and some are nice and short so a good place to start

ShebaQueen · 30/01/2023 11:32

I like Lucy Wyndham-Read, she keeps it simple and quite short. This is the one I started on

icclemunchy · 30/01/2023 11:37

I quite like Jessica Smith's walk and talk vids. She mixes up the movements but is very clear if you can manage that one yet or you can't do it for as long than the keeping walking is just fine. She has some that are more involved than others too for when you just want a little step up

Another one recommending Get Fit With Rick - is a good one and features an unexpected arrival of something in the middle (won't give you any clues so as not to spoil the surprise!).

Walk at Home is also great, although rather a lot of whooping. Some of ones shot in lockdown are better as in for example.

I've been working through KaisaFit beginners' programme, a lot of it is chair-based so a great way to get started (but this is a paid option).

adulthumanfemalemum · 30/01/2023 11:50

Another vote for Lucy Wyndham Read, she does lots of short 5-20 minute workouts, and you can choose ones with no jumping (my knees won't take it). Also a lot of them she offers a high impact and low impact option. She also does standing abs exercises, and specific ones for different parts eg arms as well as general cardio and walking workouts. I try to do ten minutes every morning just to get in better habits.

Mr Motivator has a good range of 12-15 min videos covering different areas including light aerobics and strength, and gives modifications for different levels of ability.

Get Fit with Rick is good too.

Thank you everyone
