Fast Walking?

Phlegmmy · 26/01/2023 15:09

Trying to find low impact options after several relatively inactive years as a result of health issues/serious injury.
Found Leslie Sansone’s fast walking online. Has anyone else does this, and has it worked?
Primarily looking to improve fitness/cardio, alongside yoga 3x a week.
Wary of trying anything too full on as that has previously prompted further injury.
TIA.

I haven't tried it, but have you thought about swimming? Or could a physio advise you?

Is she the very upbeat American woman? I did her walk videos during lockdown, I found her positivity as helpful as the exercises. I would personally try and get out in the countryside walking as much as bodies need to heal the head can have such an influence. Good luck.

I did her walk videos at home during lockdown. I really enjoyed them. Very upbeat. I prefer walking outside but I found them great.

I must admit that I never seemed to feel any fitter from fast walking (or running) but I think I am a cardio non responder maybe 😁. But it could be a great place to start. I used nordic walking poles to rehab and include shoulder strength, but the tapping sound is a bit annoying. Have you thought about adding in a bit of strength training (barbell or dumbells or bodyweight exercises). Its so easy and so helpful to build the muscle support around the joints and prevent injury. It works much better for me, or helps my swimming and running.

Swimming is okay, but I can only get to the pool once a week, and can’t really afford it more than that at the moment.
My physio stopped a year ago, but still doing the basics on the sheet I was given when discharged. My GP just says keep to low impact exercise, like walking.
I have a disabled child so difficult to get out of the house to walk sometimes, but I will try the videos as a starting point. I could do with something fun and upbeat!

Fast walking and Hills if possible
All help and are good low impact
Better than swimming in that you get weight bearing element
You could also add a loaded rucksack to increase intensity

Thank you @midgetastic
No hills nearby, unfortunately, but gave the home fast walking a go today and enjoyed it. Definitely get a bit of a sweat on, and no ill effects thus far.

Jessica Smith is better. Still walking but more interesting and Jess geriatric.

i've been walking with leslie for 13yrs mixed with some other stuff including Jessica smith. the new leslie stuff is pretty tough if you put some energy into it! i pay for the app subscription. I like to because i can watch stuff while i do it. it's not so tough that i don't want to do it and it's keeps me fit.

gaggiagirl · 31/01/2023 21:09

I love walking with Leslie! I'm obsessed with Nick who leads some of the videos 😍
I've been walking at home with various YouTubers for years now and its a great workout. I do other things too but walking at home withy podcast on is great for me.

Thank you! I did enjoy today’s workout and will go again tomorrow. I liked the fact that I could keep to just walking if moves were too much. Hamstring curls are just a no-no for me.
I’ll check out Jessica Smith too.
