Hi, DD has started doing some exercises with my mini hand weights, apparently following a beginners list she's found on the internet.

She hasn't really done much exercise in her life and I would prefer her to follow someone who gives clear instructions and tips to avoid her injuring herself. I was thinking of someone on YouTube and we could do the exercises together.

I don't really know where to start looking. Obviously I want a good role model, does anyone know of anyone we could have a look at?

I like Lucy Wyndham-Read, she's good for beginners but has higher impact options too.

FlowerArranger · 17/01/2023 20:11

Rebecca Louise for beginners
Growingannanas or Heather Robertson for intermediates
Caroline Girvan for advanced.

Caroline is the gold standard but requires serious commitment.

FlowerArranger · 17/01/2023 20:12

I agree,Lucy is great too, but AFAIK she doesn’t lose weights/dumbbells.

Valhalla17 · 17/01/2023 20:12

Krissy Cela
Caroline Girvan
Jenna De Leon

Davina McCall's are all great too.

How old is your DD?

It’s great she’s working out and you want to help her, has she asked you to? If not just a gentle word of warning if my DD started to do anything and I then got involved and told her there was a better way she could do it when she was a teen she’d have immediately stopped going it.

Thanks, it's something to bear in mind. She's 13 and has said she's got no idea what's she's doing. I don't either, which is why I'm here! I suggested doing some together and she has said yes, just have to see how it goes. It's hard to find something to do together, we don't have a huge amount of shared interests.

I highly recommend Courtney Black, she has a healthy attitude towards working out and relationships with food and her workouts are fun. Look her up on Instagram, she has an app that you pay for but posts free workouts online too.

Daytripp · 17/01/2023 22:00

@Eyelashesoffire I think it’s lovely she’s happy to do it together, I hope you find a programme you both enjoy.

Rebel2023 · 17/01/2023 22:00

If you want I have a 60 day free peloton app trial
There is cardio, walks, barre, Pilates, yoga, body weight, weights.... the barre classes are funny because you feel pain in places you didn't know existed Grin
you can stream it to the TV, filter out explicit language, search by beginner etc
It's free as long as you cancel before the 60 days

Eyebrowsaresistersnottwins · 17/01/2023 22:01

Netflix have put some new workouts by Nike on there. I've not seen a weights one but they are a good intro to working out.

FITNESS BLENDER - lots of different free workouts with clear instructions and are fun!

Roserunner · 17/01/2023 22:17

Fiton is really good, I have the app on our TV. There's loads of workouts all for free and you can browse by type of exercise eg hiit, cardio, strength, yoga etc. There's loads on there.

FlowerArranger · 17/01/2023 22:19

If you are both complete novices, start with Lucy Wyndham Read and che k out Rebecca Louise.

Lucy is very gentle and relatable. Her workouts are eminently doable for anyone.

Rebecca is young and bubbly. Older folks may find her chatter irritable but I could imagine teenagers would engage with her.

Eyelashesoffire · 18/01/2023 20:55

Thanks everyone, we had a look through the suggestions - I think Lucy Wyndham Reed and Rebecca Louise appealed to us the most. I was strangely drawn to Rebecca Louise, ended up watching her the longest! I don't really want anyone who's talking about getting a bigger butt or losing weight, I don't feel that's really what I want DD thinking about, she doesn't need to lose weight anyway. I just want to focus on being healthy and strong. We also need good instructions as I don't want any injuries!
