This isn’t quite a new year, new me thing- I’ve always been reasonably fit but since having DC am carrying a bit more body fat round my middle than I used to (although I’m still a size 8-10 and on a good day you can tell there are muscles under there!) But I’ve never had the free time to do anything about it.

As of this week however, I am going to have THREE whole glorious days a week to myself and I want to put them to good use! As I say, fitness levels are ok- I’m able to bust out a 10k without needing to train and completed a half marathon last year so I’m not starting completely from scratch. I would like to generally lose fat but particularly my upper body, and get back some tone in my midriff and arms. And, so I have something to work towards, my goal is to be able to wear my backless sparkly catsuit at Glastonbury (end of June) without worrying about my back fat spilling over the top!

Through work I can have free membership to PureGym and discounted at Nuffield. Would be more likely to attend a class than just go in on my own and lift weights or whatever. Or is there a DVD or specific workout I could look at?

Any advice gratefully recieved!

I started exercise classes at the end of November to assist with weight loss & found I was a lot more motivated to go, rather than trudge down the gym. So I'm doing 2 classes a week & trying to get a gym session on, I can see the difference on my thighs already. Good luck x

Download 7 minute workout app and start doing one at home every day. Good way to start and it's free and in comfort of your own home so no excuses. Good luck.

Body pump is brilliant. I'm so much more toned when I've had a good stretch of doing that a couple of times a week.

Forgot to say, I love pilates too. Really good combination.

Get some Personal training sessions or a proper gym induction that will develop a programme for you and check your technique and appropriate weights.

I love classes, for the social side as well as getting fitter, toning, burning calories etc. The gym I go to offers Les Mills - body attack, body balance, body pump, body combat, even grit if you’re up for it. Going into the gym and using weights etc bores me to tears but it’s about what does it for you. As soon as I started enjoying classes, it became something I looked forward to rather than a chore I knew I should be doing and made myself feel guilty about if I didn’t go and that made such a difference. Do the gyms you mentioned offer a trial where you can try a few and see what you like?

I need to start too. I was thinking of finding a work out on YouTube to do.

I used to go to boogie bounce which was fun. I went to curves gym for years, its women only 30mins a time, 3 days a week. There isnt one near where I live now 😞

I did try a workout on my phone(I have a samsung) and it suggests workouts based on your goals and shows you how to do it. I wasn't fit enough for it tho. I'm considering getting ring fit adventure for the switch so its fun...I get bored easily!
