Why do you exercise?

What exercise do you do and why?

I haven't been able to find something that I like enough to do it consistently.

I like to exercise as it helps me to eat better feel better and look better. But I don't really do it enough for any of those things to really come to fruition.

I tend to run, gym or home workout. Don't particularly like home workout so reason for doing that is logistically easier.

Thing is, though, that to really make the gains, you need to do your exercise even when you don’t want to. You have to turn up and some days that’s a grind.

I do two weight lifting sessions each week (I lift pretty heavy) and about 2 to 3 metcon or HIIT sessions per week, plus a couple of ballet classes. And I walk everywhere.

Mat Pilates, 3x a week (2 taught classes and 1 home workout).

Hillwalking with the dog (between 4-6 miles) every day. Plus, a couple of shorter flat walks ones on top that don’t really count as they are sub 1m mile each.

I really enjoy both. Pilates is great for strength as flexibility, as well as mindfulness. I have hyper-mobility (mostly knees & elbows) and Pilates has really helped to strengthen and support my joints and give me body awareness. Plus, it’s a really nice group so there’s a social element to it.

The dog and I walk together or with DH. I enjoy it because it’s a chance for us to chat (DH). If I’m alone, it’s an opportunity to bond with the dog, enjoy the scenery, chat with other dog walkers and think about life, the universe and everything.

I walk most mornings for 30 mins. I do Les Mills Core once a week, never miss it. That's to keep my back safe and compliments everything else.
I do barre (ballet workout class) because it's challenging and really helps my posture (desk job). I love the dancing, despite or perhaps because it's so out of my normal comfort zone.
I teach Body Combat twice a week, I do that class because it is a bit intense and I like to throw punches and kicks.
That is 4 or 5 classes a week adding up to 3.5 hours or so.
I recently tried Qi Gong. Still not sure what to make of it but I will give it a few weeks. It might be a keeper, like barre. I only did barre on a whim as I thought it might help my kicking, can't imagine not doing it now.
May through September I swim in the sea every day before work, and run on a Saturday morning. Don't bother in the winter, might dip occqsionally for the cold water lols.

Running outside. I love it, it is so much better than the treadmill and it really clears my head. I have also started doing kettlebell workouts to increase strength and I do those at home with videos.

Running and cycling outdoors for enjoyment, weights because resistance training is beneficial for women of my age, indoor climbing for the social aspect and because it's something I can do with DH despite the difference in our abilities (he's climbed for decades and is a natural athlete).
