Would you go for if you were me? 51, peri menopausal, put on 11 pounds in a year which is combination of wfh, laziness, being peri menopausal and starting HRT. I'm 9'13 atm and my ideal weight is 9. I did Joe Wicks 90 day plan in lockdown and felt amazing but can't seem to get into it this time? I just had more time in lockdown I think. I used to do lots of classes so kind of know what I'm doing, I'm not a complete stranger to exercise but need help with my diet as well, I know what I SHOULD be eating but struggle to stay on track. I almost need a nutrition programme as well as an exercise one!
So, do I:
Try Joe Wicks again
10 x PT sessions (birthday present)
Join the local gym
I want to shift the weight and become lean.

Any of those exercise regimes is fine but I've found that since I turned 40 (15 years ago) I can't shift weight by exercising, I have to stick to a strict diet too.

I’m in a similar position but with more weight to lose thanks to meno and lockdown.

I used to do all sorts of exercise - Zumba, kick-boxing, running, yoga, weightlifting etc. but I find myself right back at zero now. When I try to do the programmes I’ve successfully done before, I just can’t get into them. I feel it’s because I have this mental expectation that I should be at the level I was then and there’s quite a bit of disappointment involved.

Last summer I did the programme and diet I’ve always done to lose a good amount of weight over 8-12 weeks. I also gave up all sugar. Not a blummin’ 0.001 was lost. I couldn’t believe it. People say it’s all about cals in vs out but peri/meno is a real spanner in the works for some of us. All the females in my family ballooned at meno (which hits us early, at 40). I’m determined not to do the same.

I’d go for something completely different to start afresh and see where it takes you.

Good luck!

sarah what sort of diet do you follow? I find I'm 'good' for a few days then I binge on sweet stuff. Do you stick to three meals a day with a couple of snacks?

marcel thank you. I just need someone to tell me do that exercise and eat that food, I write it down and do it forever and ever. Amen 😂

Find a good gym with free classes and lots of weights.
I joined one at the end of June which is a ladies only gym, so no problem getting to weight area as it isn’t being hogged by the men. Lots of free classes in a morning so you can vary what you do. PT on hand to help you learn how to use the machines and explain what exercises to do to target certain areas. I only pay £25.00 per month for mine on a rolling one month contract.

10 x PT, personal coaching is better than generic gym membership which you'll have to find own motivation for.

Gym membership will cost a lot in long run, may follow naturally after PT, once you know what kind of training suits you better.
