Pants!

I’m doing 4-5 spin classes a week and finding it rather hard on my bum. I already have quite a bit of gym gear so I don’t really want to fork out more money for extra shorts only for spin, but some padded underwear would be good.

I’ve looked online but tbh, I can’t really tell which are the best ones. I’m a size 18 and a lot of them only seem to go up to a size 14 (wtf). I don’t do any road cycling so don’t need anything super expensive or hard wearing.

If anyone has any suggestions that would be great. TIA!

Just buy a pair of cycling shorts, they're a game changer for spin bike seats!

ValerieDoonican · 04/11/2022 14:15

But Emma, they tend to be cruelly tight around the middle. I am watching this thread to see if anyone can recommend cycling pants/shorts for a tubby apple shape because I have a very similar problem😭

emmathedilemma · 04/11/2022 14:19

have you tried the bib shorts?

ValerieDoonican · 04/11/2022 15:52

Ooh that's an idea. Do you promise I won't look like a toddler with a nappy under my playsuit...

emmathedilemma · 04/11/2022 17:38

Well you might but it’s that or a sore fandango! Put a T-shirt over the top of them.

That’s my problem too. I wear Lululemon wunder train because they’re the only gym leggings I’ve found which don’t roll down over my stomach or cut in to it.

My mum goes to a spin class, she wears one of those incontinence pads that look like thick sanitary towels for this purpose.
She has no incontinence issues but she says the padding is good and it doesn't slip around.

ValerieDoonican · 04/11/2022 18:38

Interesting about the pads! I'm guesing they may spread the load a little. I will however heed Emmas wise words, and at least have an online peek at padded playsuits for the portly...

Actually these don't look too bad! And I appeciate the photo - it helps answer my next question, which was - how do the straps negotiate the boobs?

Priminister · 04/11/2022 20:20

I found these which look promising.

I tried to order the above but their PayPal was clearly not working as I couldn’t pay via the website.

instead, I’ve ordered these: www.gorewear.com/en-uk/c3-women-base-layer-shorty-100016

Padded shorts over a long top would be fine. I am sure this is obvious but padded shorts or padded underwear should be worn next to the skin with nothing underneath.

Dentistlakes · 08/11/2022 14:47

I have the same issue with a sore undercarriage. I go to a group cycling class frequented by “proper” cyclists and they all seem to wear bib shorts or cycling shorts. I haven’t invested in a pair yet but don’t think I can hold out much longer!

Priminister · 09/11/2022 06:51

No-one in my class wears bib shorts that I’ve seen.

I used to do lots of spin classes and bought a gel seat from Amazon that just slotted on to the bike seat. Was great.
