Swimwear?

Hello

Might sound like a daft question, but can you wear activewear for swimming?

I mean the stretchy material leggings etc?

Please be kind, I'm new to this 🙈

Tia

why not? Isn't that a burkini, effectively.

CMOTDibbler · 21/10/2022 22:21

Yes, it just needs to be tight (or made so that it doesn't balloon up) and of the lycra material so it isn't heavy

MumE78 · 21/10/2022 22:34

I used to swim in zaggora leggings, they feel like wet suit leggings

FrangipaniBlue · 21/10/2022 22:38

You could but I think it would still soak in water and become loose.

You can buy swimsuits with legs to the knee - would these be better maybe?

Thanks for the replies

I'm more worried about the material and whether it'd be less effective when swimming.

I've bottoms already, just after a top.

I've worn cycling shorts over a standard cossie after a bad dose of chub rub on the inner thighs 😂

Swimwear is designed to be resistant to chlorine and remain decent in cut and opaqueness when wet, so I wouldn't regularly wear activewear in place of swimwear.

There are more options around in swimwear than there once were.

emmathedilemma · 24/10/2022 21:13

Why would you though??

Why would you though??

Body confidence
Skin tone/ scarring
Religion
Personal grooming
Warmth

I'll wear anything from bikini to wetsuits depending on circumstances.

emmathedilemma · 24/10/2022 22:40

But there’s swimwear styles that cover all those options and will be made of suitable fabric compared to any old active wear. I also wonder if pools will object to you swimming in your normal clothes?

Lidl sometimes sell swimming leggings, I think they're UV protective. If you search "esmara swimming leggings" you'll see some on Ebay. For the top half there were several long-sleeved swimsuits around this summer, you should be able to find one. Or if you are wanting to cover up for religious reasons and need something baggy, search for "modest swimwear" and there are tunics but these will be more expensive than the first two options.

tulips27 · 27/10/2022 09:17

I think you will do better with something meant for swimming as the fabric is slightly different and lighter.

tulips27 · 27/10/2022 09:21

You could also wear swim leggings and a rash vest but I'd be careful, it could ride up so I think you would want a bikini top or swimsuit underneath, I wouldn't wear one on its own.

The long-sleeved swimming costume would probably be easier if it meets your requirements in terms of coverage because it's only one thing to buy, it's only one thing to wash after swimming (when you go a lot this matters) and it's only one layer so less drag in the water.

DismantledKing · 27/10/2022 09:21

I suppose it also depends on the policies of the place that you go swimming
