Has anyone got a Volt folding bike and do you think this is an OK plan?

Not sure this belongs in exercise but I can't think of anywhere else other than chat.

I've got three bikes - Brompton, road and tourer but haven't been able to ride for 10 months (ruptured Achilles with complications). The only thing I can do at the minute is swim.

I was thinking of looking at an electric folding bike and increasing my commute to build up.

I think I'll be better doing it at work as it is a bit flatter than at home (live somewhere really hilly).

Probably this one, in black (to increase re-sale interest as the cream one is a bit girly!). It is much cheaper than a Brompton and I can put it in the boot of my car. I used to drive 25 miles to the edge of a City but can drive in more to begin with, increasing cycling distance it as I can.

They seem to get decent reviews, if I use it for a year and it helps me to get back on track I don't mind the outlay.

Does it sound mad or not?

I am looking at them as my commute has changed and I now have a 40 min walk from the station or a bus that seems to take the same time

I haven't got one but a person who worked at my last office did and he loved it. Used it every day and said he was v happy with it

My only concern is the weight as I would be carrying it up and down stairs at the station - I don't know if you're commuting directly from home or not though

Yes, they are heavy and much bigger than my Brompton when folded. I’d just have to lift it in and out of my boot.

My journey is drive to the park and ride and cycle in. Same journey time and I like the exercise.

I work with someone who has a non folding one and he likes it. I love my Brompton and am a bit 😬 about it measuring up to that tbh. You can get electric conversion kits but I’m not sure how they work with the dynamo hub which I wouldn’t want to lose, plus they seem to cost about a grand.

I’d buy this on bike2work which estimates it costing me £900 over twelve months. Hopefully in twelve months I’d be recovered.
