I'm quite unfit but it's now time to change that.

So to start I plan to walk for 30 minutes each day. I would like to add Yoga, Pilates and weights into my routine but not sure how to fit them in.

Currently thinking weights 4 days, Pilates and Yoga one day each and one rest day per week.

How many times a week should I be doing weights, and wll I still benefit from doing Yoga and Pilates if I only do them once a week? Or less time doing weights with more frequent Y & P?

Don't overload yourself.

It's better to start small and add things in than aim for too much too soon.

The potential for missing one Pilates session and jacking the whole thing in is high.

Perhaps just start with the walking and try the other things as activities. When you are ready to build it into a routine then do.

I think it's a good plan if you start off with light weights, I'd do two days of upper body and 2 days of lower body a week, you'd only really need to be doing 30/40 minutes a day and you'd get great results with consistency

Try 30 mins of any movement daily to begin with and then once you mail that, work on a routine. If you are too rigid to begin with and then miss sessions, it’s demotivating

Start with the walking. Try and mix up the routes and build in some hills (if possible) and mixed paces as you get comfortable. Routinely plodding for 30 mins would get tedious quickly and a lot of people don't walk briskly enough for maximum benefit.

I'd go for the pilates and get a habit established. That will give a foundation to add some weights in. DH has always ignored my experience, goes macho with the weights and with a weak core has technique like a jelly fish.

Build up gradually and change gear/ mix it up when you feel comfortable with where you're at.

Starting by walking is a good idea, but it needs to be at a fair pace - enough to get you out of breath. Wear ankle and wrist weights to maximize the effect.

Weight training is great for fitness, but you want to make sure you do it right to prevent risk if injuries. Have a look at Caroline Girvan's EPIC Beginners programme, then start with EPIC 3 or EPIC Heat.

Use light dumbbells (2-3 kg to start with) and go at your own pace. Make sure you watch her very detailed explanations at the beginning of each workout.

What’s your goal? Is it become fitter in terms of heart and lungs? Or become stronger?
